Axle back exhaust recommendation?

Hi everybody,

I’m currently in the market for an axle back exhaust that retains the NPP valve functionality but can’t seem to decide which system purchase for my ‘18 SS.

Ideally, I would like a system that offers a deep rumble and throaty exhaust note without much rasp while keeping the pops and crackles.

If anybody has any recommendations on what to get or even videos to share (Cold starts, revs etc....) that would be greatly appreciated!

Lots of threads on this. From my reading all of the posts and filtering them, the Borla systems seem to be the best for sound, no drone. They are the most costly though.

I had the MBRP on my V6- it had too much drone for me. I had a local shop replace the system with dual mini flowmasters. I still have some drone though.

If I had to do it over again, I'd get a Borla system.

Trust me, I’ve been reading threads and watching videos as if my life depended on it. I just can’t make up my mind at all!

On the topic of Borla, would you get the S-type or ATAK for your car?

Borla Atak without a question. Loud but no drone. Borla cost alot because you get what you pay for, quality!

Not sure how it is on the SS, but on my V6 I really like the Flowmaster kit. To me it sounded just as good as the Borla, but was a couple hundred bucks cheaper

another option is Magnaflow - I really like their mufflers on just about anything. The system has a touch of drone but I was able to make that go away with some dynamat in the trunk area which is completely un-insulated from the factory.

Another vote for the S-Type Borla. Has a throaty glug glug glug at idle, not too loud, and doesn't drone. Borla has a video comparison of their Touring, S-Type, and ATAK.

I went with Borla too. Don't forget that Corsa just released their NPP system.

Question to the Borla guys. Are you happy with your purchase? Do you regret getting the S-Type or ATAK and wished you had upgraded or downgraded to the S or ATAK?

In regards to Magnaflow/Flowmaster, I will be taking a look but these systems will most likely be in my lower picks on my list.

I would love to take a look at the Corsa system but it's definitely out of my price range ATM.

Out of curiosity, which Borla system did you decide on for your car?

ATAK. I got the mid pipes too. I should have skipped those.

It's too bad AWE doesn't come out with an NPP solution. I love the sound of my Touring axle-back!

If I had to do it again I'd still go with the Atak. My buddy put the S-type on his gen 6 and its not aggressive sounding like the Atak. The Atak isn't unbearable its exactly what I wanted, loud but sweet sounding, no drone, crackles and pops. With NPP its quieter in touring and sport mode so you don't always have to have it loud even though it's not too loud in track. I wanted a louder exhaust without having to do a straight pipe. It's perfect. Call Steve at RDP store or chat with him online. He's the last guy I spoke to before I pulled the trigger on the Atak. I also bought it from RDP, 10% off all the time. Cheapest price.
