Sad...DS are slowly dying. Anyone ever heard of new ones opening up? No...me neither. They are dying but none are being born.

This is/was my home track since E-Town closed and now this is happening basically the same script to ATCO big Shocker.

Its been making me angry so have been trying to stay away from it and accept going to Island Dragway until it closes also the last drag strip in a state of almost 9 million btw .... but this is not a Dying Hobby situation as seen with other strips in the country ... this is a Worthless NJ thing and its apparent. NJ state has made it impossible for these facilities to keep their heads above water with the constant attacks from all sides. Even more so now with the Covid situation making even more difficult so Oh yeah Casinos can have people in them but not tracks and if so they need big $$$ special permits to do so.

This happened already in NY and wow what a disgusting surprise the same is happening is Horrible NJ. NJ would rather racetracks go out of business or just give up so they can build more SHIT Town Houses and salvage yards like thats any better for the environment NJ Blows and everyone knows how corrupt this crap state is.

Every time you turn around in something good in NJ is taken away never to return and replaced by higher taxes ... lesson here is DONT LIVE IN NJ this state is HELL on Earth I hate this friggin state so much !!!!!!!

If it wasn't for my career I would have left this LEFTY ISH HOLE a long time ago and after that POS GOV Murphy raises our prop taxs again (with home values falling BTW!) I am just running out of reason to stay honestly its a terrible place where fun goes to get taxed and die.

Anyway enough of my NJ SUX rant everyone knows that anyway already.

I mean, you can go. There are swing states with plenty of room for strips where your vote will really count.

Not only NJ

Capitol Raceway Dragstrip(Maryland) is CLOSED until further notice We have no information at this time from the owner ?
Mr. Bradshaw was served a certified letter June 28th of 2020 informing him that they would not renew the lease of Capitol Raceway. There is no other information at this time

I use to live about 5 miles from Atco in the 90s. It was an incredible place to see some awesome top fuel and pro stock match races. Force use to come there all the time. Pro Mods sorta originated in that area too. Saw Scotty Cannon there several times. Saw Benny the Bomb blow himself up in an out-house. Saw the Green Mamba jet car set the woods on fire.

My favorite memory of Atco will always be John Force doing a match race against the Jackson car. John did his monster 1000 ft burnout and could not get it in reverse. Probably welded a few clutch plates together. So he drives it all the way down track, back up the return road and stages it against Jackson. Things are glowing red hot under the car (night time)... and Austin Coil is screaming at him to shut it off. But he stages it and wins the round all 8 candles lit. Fuel match racing was so awesome back then.

I heard the track go sold to a new owner after I left the area and went downhill. It's really a shame, such an iconic track. These insurance storage companies are coming in with millions buying up race tracks. I think they see a niche opportunity for land with ground contamination issues from decades of fuels and oils... now they have gazillions of wrecks that leak fluids... why not put leaky vehicles where leaky vehicles have already been. They can always blame any issues on the prior owner/usage of the land.

Atco hasn't been the same in years...but they released a statement a few days ago...they said a lot without saying anything. They'd make good politicians...if I was a betting man consider it gone.

I think you will win the bet. But they plan to be open for the summer I read. Atco was a social thing for me making fun runs against anything Tuesday and Friday nights. Now my wife wants me to find another hobby to get me out of the house on a regular basis. Should I be worried?

track death has nothing to do with political leaning. It has everything to do with how expensive it is to live in a given are.

If your area has a high cost of living, you can bet any existing tracks are in the process of being shut down ... if not outright, then by ever more strict rules until they do.

Also, yes, the car enthusiast / gearhead hobby is dying. Cars are shifting ever more into a "user" role than an ownership role with the cost of really owning your car increasing exponentially if it's even possible at all due to software you can't modify without venturing into the grey area of reverse engineering / circumventing protection mechanisms. That along with anecdotal stories of insurance companies cancelling your insurance when they find out you tracked your car is plenty to scare people away from the track. So who would invest in new ones with the existing ones not doing great even when they're not being shut down?

btw, jersey would be a crap hole whether it was neutral, left or right. It's always been a crap hole. It's filled with people who can't afford to live in new york city or philadelphia. The political offices are the reference material for any tv show/ movie with corrupt ex-mob-like politicians.

(also from the area but bailed)
