GM, please let me disable the WIFI hotspot!
I have tried disabling the WIFI hotspot online, on the myChevrolet app, and by calling OnStar. The site and app show the WIFI hotspot as disabled, and the agent says this has already been completed. I STILL SEE THE SIGNAL AVAILABLE ON MY PHONE!
Has anybody experienced this? I am ready to pull the fuse, but do like the idea of having a backup in case I get locked-out of my car. |

Is it like my home router where I can still connect to it but don't have any internet connection?

Yes, if you do not signup for the data plan, you still get a WIFI signal with no internet connection. In other words, its useless and I don't want my car sending a useless signal.

My guess is that it can't be done remotely by them but more by your dealer directly in your car but that might involve playing inside the computer and I doubt they will want/know how to do it.
Why does it bother you so much? My car does it too and I just didn't pair my phone with the car so it's basically invisible right now.

Because I like things to work the way they are intended to. It is a waste of power, although minimal. I should be able to disable my car searching for a LTE network connection and the hotspot. Also, I do not like the idea of my vehicle sending radio frequency energy—a form of electromagnetic radiation with no benefit. |

I thought there was an option to disable this in the settings on the entertainment screen? Maybe I am wrong and that was just the notification?

The iPhones do the same thing. I don't know why, but they broadcast as a hotspot even if you don't have it enabled. Clearly a waste of battery. It may be that the Camaro's WiFi is integrated with Bluetooth, GPS, and/or OnStar and just can't be completely disabled.

Regarding iPhone: Go to settings - Personal Hotspot - and uncheck I do not understand why Onstar, the App and the website all show the hotspot broadcast as disabled when it is not. Don't offer the option. |

I think the OP is saying that his phone is connecting to the Wi-Fi even though there is not network connection. The easiest thing to do, at least on an iPhone, is go to Settings>Wi_Fi. Press on the "i" and then look for an option to "forget this network". Your phone shouldn't connect anymore.

You can disable the car's wifi by going into "settings" and then scroll down to the bottom for "wifi" on your infotainment. You can disable it there.

No, this isn't my concern. I do not want my car putting out a network connection, even if my phone or car is not connected to it. I do not want it at all. |
