Shifter Feels Notchy/Clunks When Cold
Maybe it's just me but has anyone else noticed the following?
Difficult shifting into 1-2-3 when cold. Shifting feels like I am hitting detents or notchy/clunks when cold/warm and noisy almost like grinding with the clutch fully depressed. Shift at trans temps of 110f-140f shifts like butter into any gear. Been out of the shifting game for a minute so I just want to be sure I'm not being over sensitive before I bring it in... |

Mine feels the same way. Once it warms up it gets better too. However I don't know if it's normal. Was going to bring it up at my 1st maintenance visit.

Same exact thing for me, a little clunky for the first half of the drive to work in the morning, nothing to fret over.

What type of trans fluid does it call for? Good chance that is whats causing your "issue". If it bothers you enough, look into a different fluid from vendors like Royal Purple or Redline and see if that helps.

Typical of cold weather (I don't miss that lol). A fluid swap can work wonders if it doesn't warm up fast enough for you...

Change the diff fluid and trans fluid at 500 -1500 miles.. it will remove any possible debris from break-in.it will feel better after fluid change.

This thing shifts like butter compared to my old e46 m3. But it does get smoother as the car warms up.

But this is not entirely abnormal for a heavier built transmission made for performance applications. The synchro's are heavier duty as is everything else in the transmission. On my 2003 Evo I switched to Redline fluids which did help, but so long as you are not trying to rush shifts when cold, and it smooths out once warm, then I would not worry too much about it.

a little stiff at start up, that is what happens with "thicker" transmission fluid for track duty, which is what I suspect our cars run - something about handling the heat in the moving parts when go fast! not near as bad as my ACR-E, that thing feels like a tractor on start up

I have the same notchiness which bugs me more than it should, especially when shifting from first to second.
