Lightbulb Importing a ZL1 to canada, why not?

With all the long delays on Canadians orders for ZL1s being filled and delivered and the limited amount of new ZL1s being sent to dealerships in canada, has anyone thought of importing a new or used one from the USA?
A $53,000 USD 2017 ZL1 is about $66,000 CAD.

Regarding warranty, I was told by a dealership here in canada that GM WILL NOT provide any warranty on it unless the car is 12 months old and has at least 12,000kms. What have you heard?

Lastly, it seems that some American dealerships will take trade ins on Canadian cars and some will not.

Your thoughts on doing this instead of waiting for more ZL1s to become available in canada?

True, no warranty.GM CANADA didnt sell it, they dont want to pick up the tab for a US car. GM Canada is not GM US....completely seperate companies, with their own budgets and expenses.

Not sure about the emission differences...

Peruse this:

Then maybe buy a good used one if that is the case. There are a lot of good deals out there

You will need to add 5% duty I think to your cost just to import and then taxes. If no warranty then I think that could be a problem. GM just screwed us in Canada and it is short sighted. I think they could easily sell 3x the number of cars allocated! In business, providing the supply to meet the demand makes sense! But then what do I know.

Just make sure it is legal to import.
Nissan and I think Toyota changed a couple details on a few models when the dollar was at par (so they would not meet Canadian safety standards) to stem the tide of canadians cross border shopping.
They said the American version lacked features the Canadian version had so you could not register it.
Just to protect Canadian dealers.

What would a new one cost here....$90k? 100k? All in.
I would do it....if I had the money

I just looked at 7 Canadian Chevy dealers and none have a ZL1. Calgary has several dealers but only SS's. It is mighty Slim Pickens

I found one for you. It looks just like mine, so it must be good. It only has 104km on it.

Apparently they do warranty the car, it’s just only if it’s 12 months old and has over 12,000 kms on it, at least that’s what one dealer told me

I’ll have to look into that link, thanks

It will only suck if the American dollar keeps going up compared to the Canadian dollar... I don’t mind paying $53,000 USD for a used ZL1 if the exchange rate goes back to being .80 USD = 1.00 CAD or better which would be $66,000 CAD which is a lot less than a new one would cost in canada even if supply met demand and they weren’t being sold for way over MSRP
