New girl from Connecticut!
Hey My name is Amanda! I am hoping to pick out out a 2010-2012 ss camaro by the summer and I was curious if there is anything I should be looking out for or any suggestions?
First of all, I wanna know more about working on the engine and stuff like that. Also, this car is going to be my daily driver so is it even smart to get the ss or should I just stick to a more simplistic v6 version. Whats the biggest difference and is it economical to drive a v8 as a daily driver? Thank you! Amanda |

The V8 is a must...you will be able to talk crap to all the dudes around you.
If it is a new Camaro, you do not really need to concerm yourself with working on the engine...your warranty will take care of that.

Do a vehicle search on the Chevy site. You should be able to find some sweet deals on 2011 models.

Check insurance rates on both SS and V6 before buying. That'll help your decision.
Also it depends if you drive in snow/ice. SS tires are summer tires, so you'll have to factor the costs of snow tires. My V6 has all weather...still not the best for snow and ice, but much better than summer tires. Gas will cost you more on the SS. You absolutely need premium fuel on the SS...on the V6 is optional depending on your desires of how to take care of your car. I average 20-22 mpg with a combination of city and highway driving...mostly city driving. I do use premium because that's how I choose to take care of my cars. Don't go broke buying the car if you won't have enough money for mods you want to do. Price both out and see what your payment will be along with insurance and gas cost estimations. Be smart and not overly emotional when buying a car. The Camaro is easy to get emotional for, but you can work a better deal and make better decisions by not being emotional. Car sales play up to emotions to make you pay more money. Good luck and welcome,

Welcome. My SS is my daily driver, but I went with the automatic because of that. I rarely get to take it over 55mph during my commute and I get about 17mpg.

A v8 isn't a.must. Yes it is great to have one but if you feel like showing it off or bragging about it then something is majorly wrong (only of you are rude when you show it off) with your ego. Now if it is going to be a DD then fuel cost should be looked at. Though it may seem insignificant if you spend 5 bucks more at the pump every week but over a year that is 250 some dollars. Thay coupled with insurance rates for both models could make it difficult if finances are an issue. If you want power and good fuel eco. The 6 is a way to go. I have seen 2011 2lt rs for around 27 and lower. Good luck with your decision

Welcome to Camaro5! Test drive both the V6 and the V8. The V8 will put a smile on your face that's hard to remove. Good luck.

Welcome Amanda!! Keep in mind that the SS engines require premium gas. I have the manual transmission version (LS3) and average 14 mpg on mostly in-town driving. So it may depend on what kind of commute you have. I have gotten up to 25 mpg on the highway only driving, but just don't do that very often.
