ENGINE SOUND DATABASE

Hey guys and gals, so with a lot of people concerned with the way their LT1 engines sound, I figured it would be nice to have a thread that acted as a sort of database people could refer any concern to.

Whether or not you think your engine sounds normal, please post an idle clip, cold start and warm idle preferred. For those who don't know how to post a video, most smart phones allow you to record video and upload straight to YouTube from the phone. Take the video link, and link it in your post.

Anyone with concerns can post their idle clip, and compare it to the database of healthy, and not so healthy sounds.

This thread is not just for the LT1 engine, all camaro variants are welcome, just post your vehicle info in your post.

My engine clip (Sounds normal to me, what do you guys think?):
LT1, 13k miles.

MODS, if this thread should be in general discussions, please move.

RS-Chevy-SS has a thread on this forum about possible engine failure. Here is the knock/ticking sound his LT1 was making when he took it in to the dealership:

Check his thread for the full story:

Shadyss, Show the videos of your car to the dealer. I think your engine sounds similar to RS-Chevy-SS. Not to alarm you, but it's worth having the techs check it out. At first I thought it was normal, but reviewing your videos a few times convinced me otherwise. If it were my car, I would take it in to the dealer when it was convenient for me, but I wouldn't rush unless the sound got worse.

If they say the sound is normal, show them some of the other videos on this thread, or have them start up a camaro ss and have it idle. Then ask them again.

I'm no expert by any means, but don't let it stress you out. Just let the techs have a look. If they insist it's normal, even after showing them everything, then I would just keep on having fun with the car. If anything terrible happens, the warranty will cover ya.

That video sounds exactly like my engine.
