What's up with this?

Hey guys, I was looking at 5th Gen SS's for sale and came across one that had this goin on in the engine bay.

What's connected to the brake booster and what do you think is up with the firewall insulation?

Thanks!

Could be any number of things, but IMO it looks like something acidic/corrosive was sprayed up on the fire wall and left there for a while. Given the location, it could have been brake fluid (which will eat through a lot of things besides paint). Again, it's hard to say. Personally, if I was looking for a new vehicle and saw that, I'd walk away.

Hmm, that's a good guess. And yeah, once I saw this, I lost all interest. Still curious as to what's connected to the brake booster though.

If you are talking about the hose coming out with the connector on it, I believe that's the brake vacuum hose. If I'm wrong, I'm sure someone will correct me.

Yeah that's what I'm talking about, I've never seen that gray and purple connector though. Not sure what it's for.

The firewall insulation would be in this shape from being exposed to open air and rain and climate as its delaminating..... or someone hit it with the stream of a pressure washer... or squirrel.... LOL

It looks like it's been pulled back and torn on purpose. Doesn't look rotted or broken down in anyway.

Mice or squirrels used to do that to our cars sometimes. They use it for nesting in winter.
