Modified ZL1 low pressure pump

I see a lot of boost a pumps, add on low side pump kits, and the Fore type replacement but I'm wondering if anyone replaces the existing in tank low side pump in the factory bucket with an upgraded unit.

Not a popular thing since you'd need to drop the tank or cut the sheetmetal paneling to get to the pump.

I believe several including Lingenfelter offer drop in twin and even triple pumps. Ain't cheap.

I’m running a DW400 in tank pump using the factory ZL1 bucket. Seems to work fine so far, no voltage booster needed. It was made by DixieZL1 on this board. Supposedly outflows the ZL1 pump by 30% at 70 psi. We will find out soon, I’m heading to the dyno this Monday (7/27) to sort out my new combo...

Edit for future readers (9/5/20): I ended up needing to add the JMS voltage booster to get this pumps potential to show up.

Thanks Josh! This is exactly what I was hoping to see. Please keep us updated and good luck! BTW, did you need to upgrade the wiring harness or add a backflow valve? I saw DW mentions the possible need for a valve on their DW 400 page.

That pump supposedly has a check valve built in according to the spec sheet (https://www.deatschwerks.com/sites/w...heck-valve.pdf). I didn’t have to change my harness either. But I’ll report back once we get on the dyno with it.

When people buy the LPE injectors and there Big Bore pump this and the high flow Ck valve with bigger lines is the key to get 900 plus on all E with there setup.

people screw up and try with a SMG or DSX aux and it's not gonna happen.. it will actually do 80 psi under load.

I think we are in agreement, not sure. I for one do NOT like the factory top of tank plastic line, it is heck of bent and mine had a slight kink on the last bend before the solid metal line. It would be my opinion that even god could not push enough fuel through this line.

I don't have any issues with my DSX, it looks like it is not a good setup for the autoX (assumed). I'm probably getting close to 900 engine on E and I have a solid 80 PSI.

I would agree with you and I intend to run a completely separate system from tank and use all AN fittings, T, and hoses right to the HPFP. I will be actually pretty easy to modify the DSX setup to do this (I've been just lazy). To my mind the DSX setup is reasonable for 850 engine on E and street and / or drag racing use.

The only caveat on my setup is I also run the LT4 in-tank.

Above 850 engine, I'll leave that to the guys who know, I just know the factory fuel lines suck at the tank and just before the HPFP, also the LT1 high pressure line sucks and one should get an LT4 one with less bends. The first two issues CAN'T be fixed by a better or more pumps in the tank (nor voltage booster).
