Cat delete vs Long tubes

I have been searching for this answer and have not found it yet. All these people that have added long tube headers are picking up between 20-35rwhp but I wonder how much of that is in deleting the cats. Seems like it would be at least 10-20rwhp, right. I just don't want to spend $2,000 on a decent long tube setup if it is only going to net me 20hp when I can get close to that by spending $300 on a cat delete mid-pipe. Would like to hear everyone's opinions but mostly I want to see someone that has dynoed their car with just having cat deletes and then dynoing it again after long tubes. Highly likely I won't see that difference.

Thanks

from what I've seen (and I'm sure someone can correct me with links if I've not got this right), but headers WITH a tune is giving about 30rwhp, a tune is giving 15-20 so the headers themselves are around 15hp

secondary cat delete was something like 5hp, all the cats gone would be something like 10hp

having said that, once you get in to full bolt ons and cams or superchargers then they become a bit more necessary, but for a close to stock car, not so much

From what I have seen on average headers will give more in the 20-25whp gain and primary cat deletes will net you 10-15whp. Tuning both will net a little more power.

I go back and forth on this also. Cat deletes and 2nd cat delete should be comparable to long tubes. I was told by a certain fast guy that he only gained a half of a tenth after adding long tubes after his cat deletes.

You can get a decent set of headers from TSP for 700.00.

I just did Primary cat deletes and left the secondary. The stock NPP gets a little tinny sounding in stealth mode and really loud open. No drone at all tho...

The primary cats are the biggest restriction...the secondary look to be of little restriction being the pipe is larger diameter and the holes in the honey comb inside the secondary cats are much larger diameter

A full Kooks or Arh would be my choice, although pricey, its the only way its going to sound great if you want loud.

I know in NJ they still do emission tests and might fail if you remove the primary cats. I had a 10 Camaro with a cam and supercharger and headers. I passed through inspection but I did have cats.

I bet with a sick tune you can get 20HP from the primary deletes and it is bolt on with no cutting. If you do decide to go Supercharger or cam then you will need headers.

You won't regret getting the headers, sounds so amazing!!! I can at least do a dyno for you and get real numbers with headers, exhaust, and CAI with no tune if interested? I'm debating if my car is running right to chime in on the dyno day this Saturday. It will give me a reason to do it

You dont "need" headers with a supercharger. Jenetty racing installed a Maggie setup on a stock exhaust 6 gen and its making 600whp. Would adding headers increase gains sure, but its not required.

It's not just the power, it's a better power curve. I had stock headers before my ARH longtubes with the Whipple and it was like I had two different cars after the long tubes were installed and car retuned.

I agree....but my point is you do not "NEED" headers for a supercharger. The supercharger will make power just fine through the stock tri-y's.

I got a bump of 31hp/24tq and a better power curve. Do you NEED headers? No. Do headers give some more power and better driving experience? YES! If your spending the money on a supercharger, get headers to actually put the whole package together.

No, why? Only one shop has worked on my car.
