Curbed a Wheel, aka a Bad Day
Hey all,
Unfortunately when I was leaving the gym earlier I cut too soon leaving my parking spot and caught the wheel on the curb I parked beside. It left a nice mark on the wheel. I was wondering if anyone else had curbed a wheel and had any luck with getting it repaired or at least touched up a bit? It's got just over 600 miles so far, what a way to ruin my day. |

That sucks. I also scraped my right rear wheel doing the same thing. Mine wasn't as bad, so I sucked it up and decided to live with it.

Ouch! That picture made me cringe. Id take it to a paint and body shop and see if they can smooth out the gash and paint it to match the rest of the wheel. You'll always know that mark is there, but if they touch it up nice it probably wouldnt be noticable to someone whos not looking for it.
This is another reason why I intend to replace the stock Supercar 3 tires with Pilot Sport 4S tires when they need replacing. Those are designed to slightly protrude on the outside edges to protect the wheels from light contact with a curb. |

I did the same thing with my last car. I bought a new wheel to replace it.

You aren't going to find a touchup paint that is specific for your wheels. Autozone will allow you to return any touchup paint that doesn't match if you haven't used much of it. Pick out 2-3 colors that look close and try it out. Return the ones that don't match.

Have the tire removed, add some bondo to fill the mark, paint to match and reinstall the tire.

Look for a alloy wheel repair company in your town, they can determine if it can be repaired. Good Luck!

That would drive me to just bite the bullet and get a new wheel. Keep that one as a spare after it's touched up. Then someday down the road when the car is more worn out and it ever happened again, I'd a have a wheel 'good enough' to swap back onto it.

Yes. It's not "1LE wheel specific", but it's supposed to be a match. I have the stick at home, but haven't used it yet. I'll post it when I get home.
