Rear splash guard/side marker install

I'm changing out the side markers haven't ordered them yet. I have my rear splash guards to install, question....

Would it be wise to wait till I have the replacement side markers and install them first before the splash guards ?

Yes, you will have to take the splash guards off to get to the side markers due to what screws have to be removed to get the wheel liner out of the way.

I see a ton of LED side makers on ebay. I know most have the Diode's or Oracle's. Are they that much better than the competition which are half the cost. Just looking for easy to install smoked LED side markers.

I never purchased the EBay products you’re talking about but I hate buying things twice.

If the EBay lights last a year and the DD/Oracle last two years, you’ll break even as far as money is concerned. However you’ll be replacing them twice as often.

Go with what you like. Just my two cents.

I initially had Diode Dynamics, then half of the driver side front marker went out twice within a year... it was replaced the first time no questions asked, but after the second time I switched to JW Motorsports (http://www.jwmotorsportsllc.com/6th-...KED_p_340.html). Their product works fine and looks just as great. I've only had it installed for a few months, so can't vouch for longevity, but so far so good.

I'm surprised you had issues with the Diode's. Did they not replace it for you the second time ? They shouldn't be failing that soon.

I can't trust a product that fails the same way twice for no good reason. It's unlikely that the two failed markers would've been from the same batch, many months apart.

That said I do still have the other 3 DD markers (one front, two rear) in case anyone wants a free replacement.

Did you pursue a second replacement? Did you happen to dig into it a little to see if it might be "obvious" what the issue was that was causing them to fail?

ember1205, I must man up and admit that I did not. I simply assumed that it was caused either by water intrusion or a manufacturing defect, neither of which would make me want a replacement. I'm not here to bash anyone or any company without solid proof, it might have been me doing something wrong.

I don't think that requires a "man up" moment... I was just curious as to whether you had tried a second replacement from them and what they had for a response and such.

On my 2006 TL, the front side markers (just in front of the front doors) were a smoked color with amber lights from the factory while the rear side markers were a standard bulb behind a red lens. In 2007, when the released the TL-S model, the rear side markers were smoked with red bulbs. I bought a set of those and swapped them onto my '06.

I traded that car and swapped the lights back before it went away. Two years later, when I bought a used '08, I swapped the lights back on. While I like the cleaner look against a darker colored car, I'm honestly not sure how much different the look would be against a white car. So, I'm quite hesitant to drop $200 on something that I 'might' like and was looking for something less expensive that might be a reasonable thing to try.

I'm gonna send you a PM on this as well...

I hear you, the clear version would probably flow better with your white color. Mine are smoked and have a gray hue similar to that of the GM dark taillights, but they're a bit darker, so unless you go for a blacked out look with the wheels and accents (fuel door, stripes etc.), it could be too much.

Seems too good to be true but thinking of trying these at $47 CAD. It will cost me around $300 CAD to order the Diode's and ship to Canada. Never heard of VIPMOTOZ and looks like they are red lights front and back not amber on the fronts. I barely drive at night so I doubt not having orange front side markers will matter.

These are super cheap (China) seems maybe worth the try for under $50.

buy something quality made. Don't cheap out, If there is one thing i've learned over 15 years of buying automotive parts its that your going to be replacing inferior parts relatively quickly compared to OEM or quality made parts. You might try two pairs of cheap parts that both fail. They your going to buy the quality parts anyways. Just save the money and wasted time and buy the good stuff the first time.

If people stop buying crap parts it might encourage those manufactuers to make better parts. BTW, I had bought a set of used Diode Dynamics markers from a member on here. One of them had half the LEDs blown. DD still stood by their warranty and replaced the defective piece. I just had to have the previous owner email me his receipt. It was a batch from 2017 and from what I have read, they have figured out the issue and fixed it in the new shipments.
