2016/2017 Camaro SS K&N Drop-in Filter Dyno Results and Review

I know many of you have been asking about the K&N drop-in filter alongside the testing I have been trying to do with the Cold Air Inductions, Roto-Fab, and Mishimoto testing. I went out and picked up a filter for testing and did new runs from stock and with the drop in filter.

In this testing it was 88F degrees outside with 30% humidity, we did do closed hood testing this time around with the stock setup. (I will note: we did do a follow-up test with the hood open and got the same results with the drop-in filter)

Some things to consider: The K&N filter isn't just for potential HP and TRQ gains, this is also a filter you keep for life, and you never need to buy a new air filter again. You do however need to buy a recharge kit that will last you a long time and many filter changes.

The Benefits: Outside of it being a long lasting filter, the product can yield HP and TRQ gains. To test just how much, I took my car to the the dyno last Friday to find out if this filter added any benefit to the car.

Dyno Results:
Stock Run: 394.96HP and 407.42TRQ
Drop-in Filter Run: 399.8HP and 411.85TRQ

Gains: 4.84HP and 4.43TRQ

Take these results as you will, but it seems you do get a slight gain on top of a filter that should last you for a long, long time.

Note: I received this product from Phastek Performance for my gamut of testing, they do offer an excellent price on it

Odd how they gain in these cars, in the Coyote Mustangs they make less power then the OEM paper filter. I wonder if the AC Delco filer is somewhat more restrictive than the Motorcrafts...

EDIT: Does anyone else make a drop in for these cars yet? Like a dry AFE?

I've been using one of these for a few months now with my Heartbeat SC. Tested the car before and after using Dash Command and it increased my max boost by a whole PSI (.919 to be exact). That's $75 for nearly 25rwhp if you're running a supercharger.

Wow, the OEM filter must be a complete turd.

The community has honestly been helping a lot along with Phastek Performance. While I have spent a lot of money, a handful of amazing people have donated roughly $300 to the channel. While it hasn't paid for everything... it has helped pay for a small portion of some of the hardware I have tested.

I guess what I am trying to say is, I can't take all the credit here for enabling me to do these tests.

Nice work as always!

So the K&N drop in filter made more power than the CAI and Mishimoto.. I'm guessing it won't have the throaty noise as a conventional setup would but does it feel like it accelerate any faster? 4-5 whp/torqe isn't much and the butt-dyno and most probably won't feel anything but if the throttle response is more livelier, then that's a plus!

One advantage I found from a K&N drop in filter on two previous cars was a gain of 2-3 mpg highway.
