2SS to ZL1 or other options

Well I’m getting into my 3rd year of ownership with my SS and I’m thinking about upgrading.

Options for me:

Camaro ZL1 I would order brand new with 10 speed in white!

Do all the white ZL1’s have the black around the bottom skirts and on the hood?
Can this car beat the hellcat stock vs stock? From a stand still and a roll?

No cons for me price per dollar to performance this is a steel

Nissan GT-R I would be buying used 2014-2015

For me this is a great car awd twin turbo dual clutch transmission faster then a ZL1 in a straight line and a fairly good handling car also very rare. One I’m looking at is white 2014 with Cobb stage 2 tune basically mid 10’s it runs.

Cons expensive to fix expensive to buy

Corvette I love the look of the C7 and the performance of the z06 if I go base corvette am I going to be happy I don’t know the Camaro close in performance.

Both the GT-R and Z06 are expensive I live in Canada so 80000 plus for a used Z06 as well as the GT-R

About 74000 out the door with the 10 speed ZL1 brand new and ordered which is nice because I like all my stuff in a perfect state.

Opinions are welcome so fire away thanks in advance!

ZL1 10spd vs an auto Hellcat Challenger is almost a dead heat stock vs stock. Go for the ZL1...you will enjoy it!

Well, I think there's a few things you need to figure out.

For one, a bone stock 2014-15 GTR with 545 HP is no faster than a ZL1 after probably the first 30 MPH where the AWD helps. They both run right at 11.0-11.2. Now if you're looking at a tuned car, then you'd have to compare it to a modded ZL1 if you want a fair comparison. GTRs get EXPENSIVE to modify and keep up to. Though they are the (probably) most popular car ruling the high HP streets in all of the internet videos, those builds have the owners $100,000 deep sometimes. So don't get too excited. If you want 700+ HP out of a GTR, you're out big dough for new bigger turbos, fueling, etc right off the bat.

I would avoid buying someone elses project car that's likely been tracked, such as that Cobb GTR.

Yes, all ZL1s have black side skirts, diffuser, splitter, and grille. But the hood can be Exposed Carbon Fiber or painted Black, you get to choose that and personally I went exposed carbon.

Yes, the ZL1 will run right with a Hellcat in the 1/4 if both are running autos. Now, if the Hellcat driver is much superior, then the Hellcat HAS been proven to run a bit faster in the quarter, some coming it at around 10.8-11.0, especially if they have a DR on the back, whereas ZL1s have only gotten down to 10.98-11.2. Does that matter to you? Its worth noting that on a back road, or at the track, or anywhere else, the ZL1 would WHIP the hellcat in any other dimension. And as brought up by Hellcat owners that have now bought ZL1s, the Hellcat has to be properly driven in order to beat a ZL1 in the 1/4 or on the street/from the light because they have a 275 all season tire whereas the ZL1 has a 305 summer tire and has superior traction management. From a roll, the Hellcat will probably get you by a door-to-hood margin after 120+ MPH.

A ZL1 will out handle any of the cars in your list, except for the C7 Z06 which it's about even with I'd say in handling, but the Z06 being a few hundred pounds lighter, turns in quicker lap times and quicker 1/4 mile runs (Z06s are proven 10.5-10.8 second cars BONE stock, while slower drivers can get the same times if they have an intake/exhaust).

I'd personally choose:
1. C7 Z06
2. G6 ZL1
3. GTR
4. Hellcat (Other than its one trick pony class, it doesn't even compare to the above cars)

But since you're buying all of them used except for the ZL1, then that would probably make me go ZL1 as brand new is always better.

I've owned all 3 and am now in a Zl1. And i never thought i'd say it, but the Zl1 has made me the most happiest. I miss my GTR tho. Not so on the Z06. Too many Vette's around now. It was a bad boy tho. If I get a 2nd car, I'm adding another GTR to my garage as my daily.

I was in the same dilemma for the past year while trying to make a decision. The following were my interests:

2013-2-14 GT500 used ones are too hard to find around here, couldn't venture into the dark side (auto not available), GT350? <--no thanks

hellcat charger - sacrifice interior and handling but roomy interior, obviously on straight line power

C63 and the RC-F - sacrifice power but very nice build quality, Mercedes was expensive to fix anything

m3/m4 - I been through 2 bmw's, after the warranty, your on egg shells. Had issues with both of mine

cts-v & ATS-v - cts-v are pretty high priced and just got out of the 2011 coupe, dealer I went to ..... well lets just say I wont ever go back. The ATS-V really caught my eye though, was very close to what I wanted

trackhawk - good luck finding a dealer without a substantial mark up

Used gtr - everything great about it but expensive to mod/service and every Asian that can get one .... does

c7 z06 used with competition seats - no back seats for both my 2 little ones, just asking for teary eyes for the one son that cant go with pops. Although my younger son was begging me to get the z06, everyone knows whats so great about a z06, I don't need to mention it here

The ZL1 made the most sense, awesome a10, back seat for my 2 little boys since we go everywhere together on the weekends although a little tight..... use my Silverado during "other" weather times and during the week. Good power when I want it, very track day capable out of the box. I am still impressed with the interior, although not quite like some others above, still impressed.

Out of my options, the ZL1 maybe wasn't the absolute best at any 1 thing, but it was the most balanced at all things I wanted. This may be the first vehicle I keep long than 6 moths to 2 years.

When I decided to get out of my C6Z06 I went and drove a used 15 C7 Z06, Z07 package, 7spd, 3lz interior, which is the "ultimate" Z06 basically...Probably was 105-110k brand new. Then I drove the ZL1 10spd auto...

I bought the ZL1.

The vette was nice, but something about the ZL1 made me choose it over the C7. Prices were roughly identical.

I wouldn’t take any of the cars on your list except the ZL1.

Food for thought:

Nissan maintenance and repair is gonna eat you alive.

The only Corvette I would buy is the 2019 ZR1 or wait for the 2020 C8, Base C7 lacks the horsepower you’re after. The C7 Z06 will overheat and the AC doesn’t work well.

I’d never get a Dodge vehicle unless it was a Cummins Diesel 3500.

Bottom line: if you are budget limited get the ZL1.

If you have the cash, get the 2019 ZR1 Corvette. It corners at insane speeds and pulls so hard on the straight, check out the Virginia International Raceway video.

Thanks guys for all the input, I’m going to go this week and sit down with my local dealer and see about ordering in a 2018 white ZL1 all the dealerships around here don’t have white and have them all marked up to 80k

Chevy build and price has it just under 74000 which they may have a credit which could save a thousand or so.

Thanks again great input I think it’s the smartest buy for me!

Small update at my dealer of choice right now, they don’t have a allocation for a 2018 so it might have to be 2019 anyone know when you can order a 2019? I’m thinking mid summer at the earliest
