GM Family Discount Question

I am in the process of submitting an order for a 2023 Camaro. I have an uncle who worked for GM and he is going to provide me with the family discount code.

Do I need the code before the dealer submits the order to be built or can I provide it when I go to purchase the car?

The dealer needs an active code at the time of delivery. The codes are good for 90 days. Just make sure your dealer will accept the Friends and Family discount.

I would ask the dealer about it so that you know. I didn’t have any dealer in my area that would accept supplier discount but perhaps in your case with the family discount may be different.

It is complicated but GM does provide the dealerships a certain amount of $$$$ for each GM Family First Sale. I believe it is around $1200 or $1300 but it could have changed. The dealership can make more $$$ by selling the vehicle at MSRP but if you operate in an area with a lot of GM Employees or individuals that have access to the program, dealerships still accept it. They are NOT required to access GM Supplier or the GM Employee (Family First) program.

Might want to double check the discount eligibility as well. Nov of 2020 they changed it to where you have to have 20 years if retired to extend it past your spouse and child 25 and under. If they retired with less than 20 years you are not eligible. I found out the hard way and had to use the supplier discount instead. Ended up costing me an extra $2k.

The dealership told me they apply the discount at the time of sale. That's different from when I ordered a Mustang a few years ago. Ford applies the discounts at the time of order.

My uncle retired at 40 years, so no concern there about the discount code. The dealership also accepts Costco discounts, so I'll get a little bit of something off the price of the car either way. I also kept the MSRP at a point that I can comfortably afford the payment even without any discount.
Now it's just a matter of waiting for the car to be built and delivered!
