Engine Coolant Leaking

I have noticed the smell of coolant after driving my ZL1. I've also noticed the level in the reservoir is slowly dropping. There is also some spray on the underside of the heat extractor in front of the reservoir once the hood is closed. With all this, I cannot find this leak anywhere. Both reservoir lids are on tight.

Anyone have any ideas where this could be coming from?

One day many months ago, I notices three dime sized drops of pink fluid on my epoxy garage floor. No doubt I'm leaking coolant but can't find it.

remove reservoir cap and pressure test system...sometimes squeezing the upper radiator hose can help to detect the source of the leak.

In all seriousness Donald P, I would run it to the dealer and let them check it out. Do you still have any of the 36 mo/36,000 mile warranty left? Since it’s a 2017 you probably do and it can be maybe fixed under warranty. If it was me I wouldn’t take a chance on f**king up my ZL1 if it had that issue because of the car being so expensive! Good luck and let us know what you find out is the cause of the leak.

Mine just had my water pump leak. Dealer replaced under warranty. Posted a thread about it last week.

Check the port holes on the water pump pulley for gunk or moisture. My seal was leaking and coolant would drip on the pulley then get sprayed onto the underside of the hood.

Water pump leaks are not unusual, but typically after many miles.

Small leak in a hose at the connection is most likely IMO.

Also could be a pin hole in radiator, when this happens it may only leak under pressure at full temp and the small amount of fluid evaporates so quickly its hard to locate without removing radiator and placing underwater to see bubbles.

Go to dealer for pressure test and fix under warranty asap.

Exactly why I was shocked, car had less than 12k miles on it. Replaced whole water pump assembly and manifold.

Thanks everyone. I have 27,000 miles and am still under warranty. Water pump is now my guess based on responses here and also from the general thread.

I will go to the dealer. This will be my first trip to the dealer since purchased new March 2017 - I try my best to avoid them.

I’ve replaced plenty of water pumps under warranty in my career. It’s not exactly uncommon. I can’t say I have on any new LT series engines as I don’t work on cars really anymore but water pumps do go for a crap in the warranty period from time to time.

Yeah why are you worried?
You knew there was a leak. Common sense likely kicked in. You likely checked your coolant level and topped up before going to the dealer. Am I wrong?
Is a water pump a big deal?
No unless you are the idiot who doesn’t know Jack about a cooling system. Take it in and get it replaced.
What’s the deal here?

Junky I think you took my reply to you out of context. If I thought I was answering to somebody who knew nothing about cars yeah I could see it as being a big deal for that person. But I have a feeling most ZL1 owners have an idea about checking levels and realizing the severity of leaks from various systems on the car.
I had a leak on my ZLE from the oil filter seal. Trust me what was going through my mind was I hope it’s not a rear main seal.
That’s a big deal!!!!!
At least to myself.

One side note if you ever find yourself in a Chiniok helicopter or an AC-130 airplane and they are not leaking, get out of it, that fluid is empty. Bad things happen to aircraft without fluids. LOL

Whatever. If you can’t read your operators manual and learn to check fluids like a proper operator should then you definitely shouldn’t be operating a machine like this. Sorry I hurt your feelings.
