So if you put 3.91s in the SS your shift points 1-3 would be sooner than a 1LE, correct? Maybe I'm missing something?
You are right sir. I have a very quick 1st-2nd shift. First winds out very fast but second pulls like a friggin gorilla, so getting to second faster, made me faster by 3 tenths in my quarter times. Count me a satisfied customer. 3.91 is life.

If anyone would like to chime in on the same subject with A6 and stall.

I'm one of the auto guys with a stall. I have included a couple videos. The first is a soft launch and converter flash. Flash stall is 4800 RPM.

And next is a very boring video showing some daily driving conditions (road was wet so more throttle wasnt happening). It shows you what 1500 RPM does at 1:58 into the video (barely anything), and why it doesn't matter since under normal driving, the converter flashes immediately to 2600 RPM and you accelerate normally until you want to mash it, then it will flash to 4800 and in my case, shift at 7600 from 1st to 2nd, and will not drop below 6200 on the shift. All other shifts are set to 7400 RPM. Brake stall is 3800 with traction on before the car wants to move, and about 3400 with traction off before the tires break loose. Hope this answers some questions. Sometimes the best way to answer is to just show it.

I'm another one happy with the 3.91s. I did a trutrac with them.

I had the gears for a year before the new cam just went in, agree that 2nd gear is unbeatable, even from a standstill.

top speed in the non-1le cars would be 5th gear, so going to 4.10 would probably make the top speed red-line limited. 6th gear is still good for mach 1

with the 3.91s, i dont see a need to go any higher, would try looking at the 3.73s next.

Plan is Motive 4.10s / Eaton TrueTrac / LPW Cover — since my budget isn't catching up to my needs at the moment, I may have to go with just the 3.91. I hear there are quite a few 1LE rear ends available to purchase and makes the whole swap cheaper.
If you’re knocking and pinging in 6th it sounds like you’re running crappy fuel or your tune is garbage.

Nice

You may want to get your tune checked out. I have a TSP Stg3, which I believe is a bigger cam than the BTR Stg3, and I can chug along at 60 around 1500 RPM or so just fine. No pinging or knocking.

I swapped in a 391 rear. Seemed to be the best all around gear for these cars.

I have an A6 and the first thing I did after Long tubes, intake, full exhaust and tune was a rear with 3:91's and a TrueTrac. Best bang for the buck in my opinion. Just had complete cam package installed and 3200 stall converter. See my sig for mods. This car is pretty damn quick and the car didn't lose an street manners either. Those 3:91's are the ticket.
