Fuel Stabilizer

Hey all, I’m new to the forum, but I wanted to get some opinions. I sold my C5 Corvette and bought a 2018 Camaro SS 1LE. Since I live in the northeast, I’ll most likely store it in the winter and not drive the car. Do you guys use fuel stabilizers and which one do you recommend? I always used stabilizer with the Corvette and was thinking I’d do the same with the Camaro. Thanks.

I have never had a problem not using an additive.

Not sure about that. Fuel with ethanol does muck things up if it sits too long. I’m in upstate, NY so my storage season is easily 4 months and usually longer. So, using a little stabilizer is not only really cheap but does help. I’ve also switched to ethanol free gas for my power equipment and mowers. They run better, I swear they do!

100% they do. Ethanol burns much hotter and it is not good for your power equipment. I do agree with the guys that said it really isn't needed. If you are running high test gas in your Camaro (which we all do I think) you really don't need any additive to store it for a few months. I still do as it's very cheap insurance.

With all the toy cars I have had over the last 30 years, never used stabilizer in any of them. And I live up in the great white north, where my cars are stored 5 months out of the year due to winter.

A can of stabil will not hurt anything if you put it in. Cheap insurance..

I store my Camaro for 6 months and always use fuel stabilizer.

The last thing I do before putting the car away is to drive to the gas station, pour in a bottle of Sea-Bil, fill the tank, and take a 15 mile drive to get the treated gas into the system.

Why do I do this? Because before using Sta-Bil, I had repeated problems with fuel delivery in my lawn mower and snow blower. So obviously it's cheap insurance for the Camaro.

I use Stabil as well in anything stored - my Harley, lawn mowers, snow blowers, etc.

However, using a good-quality non-ethanol gas is the best thing you can do for any of the above. It is primarily the ethanol that will breakdown if not used within a month or so.

I use Lucas Ethanol Stabilizer in my 1970 VW Beetle with 93 Octane which seems to help it run better but haven’t tried it in my ZL1 yet. All my vehicles get driven year around.
