It depends,
If you are planning on keeping this car for a long long time don't sell.

But if you are not planning on owning this for the long term I would take advantage of the inflated prices.

Are dealers going to just let these cars sit at inflated prices on their lots for months?

I don't have any thought of selling my Camaro, so even if it's worth a bit more then paid for it, so be it. I guess I just am worth a bit more now because of the vehicles I own.

How much will Carmax sell it for?

Only a fool would pay what Carmax would sell them for. For a few grand more you could just buy a new SS on a local lot.

I have had 4 Challengers (2009Rt,2012RT,2015 Shaker and a 2020 ScatPack all Manuals}
Was looking to buy a Camaro SS1 last July but the nearest dealer that Had a
Basic Camaro SS2 was about 2 hours aways and was around $41,000 and I had GM Mile Points on my GM card..Anyways I ended up with 2020 Challenger ScatPack Manual,I like the Challengers(lots of room in them}but I am willing to buy a Camaro SS and see if I like them.
Bought the 2020 Challenger ScatPack for $36500 (MSRP $41000}With Power Dollars.
Checked out Carvana Last Oct just to see what the car was worth.Carvana said $30,000..
Was not Shocked since all cars fall in price when driven off the first time.
Now today I felt listening to Computer Parts shortages in cars, lets check out Carvana again today.....Well Carvana is offering me $40,700 today.A $10,000 Difference.

I am not interested in a 2021 Camaro SS buttttt would like to see what my car will be worth when Aug comes around when New 2022 Camaro SS start hitting dealer lots.
I love my Challenger ScatPack butttttt getting $4000 over what I paid for the car is a no brainer...............JT

Carvana, Carmax, etc. All sell too much.

The Scatpack Challengers used here in FL are generally cheaper than the SS right now for some reason.

I agree when I bought my 2020 ScatPack Challenger with the Power Dollars and discount I save over $5500 and got $1000 more on my Tradin.
I was happy to write a $12,000 check(that's with the tax}with my 4 and 1/2 year old tradin.
Buttttt in the Pa.Ny and Nj area there are NO Manuals ScatPacks butttt then again there are NO Challengers on Most Dodge dealer websites.
I seen that I can buy a 2021 Camaro SS1 in Manual and would cost me next to nothing with tradin.Buttttt rather get a 2022 since they are about 4 months awaysssss to dealer lots.

Think that Covid19 will be around till sometime in 2022 and Used car prices will still be high(I can be wrong}But nice to see whoever want's to upgrade, this is the time to shop around.....JT

I'm still baffled by this "pandemic." The 1957 and 1968 ones they did not shut stuff down, study from home, work from home, can't go out to eat, demand a mask, etc. Yet this one they talk about it that it will be around forever and blah blah. Nothing should have been shutdown because of it.

I've noticed the same thing with my 17 1SS Convertible - it's very tempting but I highly doubt I would do since it seems like I would have to wait a year or 2 before prices come back and used cars become more available to find another red one...

I would seriously consider it if I could actually find a base C8 that was selling at MSRP though... 0-60 in under 3 seconds is insane for a mass production car!

I don’t care if they offer me $10k more than I paid for my ZLE.. it’s not going anywhere without me in it. I bought the car because it gave me everything I wanted in a weekend toy car. I wanted the car more than I wanted the $ when I bought it. That sentiment still remains the same..

Started when the free money, for some, started being handed out.

The increase in used car prices started before the chip shortage. I bought my SS 1LE in September 2019 for $35k, 3,800 miles on it. Then when COVID hit and they started handing money out it climbed to the high $30's. Now I'm seeing them in the low $40's. When people are essentially making $60k a year, that never made anywhere near that before COVID, and not having to pay their mortgage there are a lot more buyers for cars now. It's weird seeing all these signs for hiring but yet unemployment is on the high side. Who'd take a $25k yearly salary when they can sit at home and be handed $60k plus.

If there’s something else you’d rather have, then sure. Otherwise, why?
