High flow cats?

Hi, I just bought my 2010 camaro 1ss/rs auto a little over a month ago and It came with a borla axle back, h-pipe and an afe power intake, I bought an sct tuner for a a couple weeks ago from rdp store and I’m getting some speed engineering headers and I was wondering if I should just spend the extra money on some high flow cats because I live in Texas and they don’t allow cat less cars, and I’m not sure which high flows to go with or if I should just stick with the stock cats.

If you live in an area with emissions inspections or smog testing, then yes, get the cats.

But if there is no chance you will be tested, visual or probe, you can likely safely run catless. Just beware it will be a little louder/raspier and a LOT stinkier. Personally, I love that smell though, but it sticks to your clothes. The horsepower gain from going catless with long tubes is negligible. Some people run high flow cats just because it can clean up the exhaust sound a little bit onb long tubes, depending on your exhaust of course.

And just for the record, NO state allows removing the cats or tampering with emissions equipment. It's just a matter of enforcement and how your state handles it. I live in Florida where it's a no mans land and inspections are unheard of. If we had safety or emissions inspections we would probably lose 30%+ of the cars on the road down here.

Bail the stock cats for high flows for sure. Bunch of universals out there that are fine. Many in the $100 range. Does Texas actually have emissions or any kind of checks?

If you need high flow cats you should get high flow cats. Smog tests will definitely rat you out, but if you don't have a sniffer test you'll fail the visual test.

If you have long tube headers you cannot utilize the stock cats. Check out Texas Speed for high flow cats. Most people who have bought Speed Engineering headers and need cats go with their high flow cats.

Side note, for those who are considering budget friendly long tubes but need high flow cats, you can't beat OBX.

Because Speed Engineering doesn't sell cats.

Exactly why I went with high flows. Haven’t fired it up yet but, hoping it also will help with possible drone issues at certain rpm’s.

Wtf... I thought Texas didn’t have emissions. If they do, then I have to rethink moving down there.

They may look like them, but they aren't. It's an attempt to let their end users fool the visual inspectors. However, a tap on them will indicate that they are hollow.

Here in Texas there is no sniff test. As far as a visual inspection, they don't really do anything except plug into the obd port and as long as you don't have any codes your good USUALLY. Now if you have an exhaust that is loud as hell they might take a look but probably not likely. I would say if your worried about it I would go with cats but I'm not going to worry about it. The shop that I'm going to get to do my tune asked me if I was going to run cats or not and I told him no and alls he said was that will sound good. So I think it just depends on where you go.
