Remove engine covers? LT1

Any who tracks their car remove all the plastic covers and sound deading? Assume all that just holds heat in...

I’m sure it’s worth some cooling, but I have never heard of temps being an issue for the 1LE.

I Track at Sebring and Daytona (in June/July/August) and haven’t had any overheating.

Agree. Same here, same tracks and no issues. Just wondering if would help, and less stress, etc on engine and intake temps... Things you ponder on a Saturday in Florida

I removed all my covers, I think they do hold heat in the engine. There is a foam insulator on the intake manifold as well as the plastic covers that will prevent some of the heat from dissipating from the engine. I have not heard of anyone having any over heating issues. I think it will cut down on the under hood temps along with a better heat extractor in the hood. You can take drain cups off the hood extractor and get more airflow out of the engine compartment (they snap in/out). The engine compartment looks better with the covers but I prefer to get as much heat out of my engine compartment as possible for longevity and power. I opted for carbon fiber hood with corvette style heat extractors. The engine is definitely a bit noisier without the covers but that doesn't bother me.

I took mine off some time ago, I mostly run mine on drag strip or street. It does unleash some sounds the DI engines make that you may not be use to hearing as well as cause extra heat on your intake. The intake cover had a felt/plastic liner under it that helps keep your under hood heat from soaking into your intake plenum. When I took this cover off my car my intake temps went up 8-12 degrees, but my ability to cool the intake between pulls was much more effective. Mostly because I could set my bags on the intake directly. On the street though, it caused my intake temps to creep up just a little and made the engine sounds a little louder. Not the nice exhaust note either lol.

Chevy71 thanks for the info, you have a pro charger which makes a lot of heat but your information is great data. I will putting the insulated cover back on my intake!

You're right, the pro charger does put off extra heat compared to a stock engine, same with the headers, they put off some extra head compared to the shielded manifolds it comes with.
I also have a stock hood with the two small vents for letting that under the hood heat out. If I had a better hood to flow more air it may not be as big of a deal too.

I watch it on my nGauge. Where my car typically runs and where it runs with the covers off. I put them back on from time to time when I'm not going to the track or trying to cool the intake quickly.

Did you try this same day, same weather? Your intake chilling between runs the same every time? When, exactly, was the temp higher?

I’m just curious because I’m going to data log this next time at the track on a NA/factory engine. The intake is in a totally different place on a Procharged setup (next to and above the engine).
