Goodyear supercar tires vs. cold wx

I have a “business trip” next week and I need to drive to Reno NV. My 2022 SS 1LE is my daily driver at the moment. The weather forecast says 48* every day, and 15*F overnight the whole time I’m there. Our owners manual says not to use these tires below 20*F.

Looking for opinions. Would you guys take these tires to cold location below 20*F? I intend to track this car occasionally once it crosses 1500 miles and it’s broken in. I don’t want to find out I cracked a tire at 110mph at willow springs.

Short answer - no, I wouldn't. I would think there would be damage at near 20 degrees even if you weren't going to keep the tires for a track day.

Rent a car?

I cant speak to cold weather and the damage it has on tires but I will tell you that cold, these things do not have any grip. It’s very easy to break traction. I would find another car to drive to Reno. If you dare take it, be very careful. Watch for black ice. I’ve driven in cold weather. I’ve driven in the wet. I have NOT driven in cold and wet conditions and that seems dicey.

Thanks for the honesty. I really wanted to drive the car thru the mountains, but I’m terrified of the tires failing at a track day. I’ll just drive my wife’s Jeep.

Define irony: my 1LE gets 26-30mpg on the highway. My wife’s wrangler 4xe hybrid gets 10mpg on the highway. (It’s great around town though)

If you get paid mileage get a cheap rental car and pay for it with miles reimbursement

Used to do this pretty often for work and used to come out a couple bucks ahead most of the time

I think that would be a smart move...

If you are serious enough to do track days, but still need it as a daily driver the rest of the time, you may want to consider a second set of rims. That way, you can have an even more aggressive tire for the track that you aren't wearing out daily driving, and something more flexible, cheaper, longer lasting, and fuel efficient for daily driving and long distance highway trips.

Got my 1LE yesterday and drove it home in 38 degree weather, wet roads and it was sketchy at first. Had to drive very slow on fresh pavement. Took about 20mins for the tires to warm up enough where I felt comfortable giving it moderate throttle (maybe 1/4 throttle). Definitely do not drive on these tires when it's cold or rainy.

Congratulations on the new 1LE. I can't wait to get mine.

Terrible in wet or cold temps, maybe invest in some all season tires and another set of rims?
