They finally got me :(
I was sitting in traffic that was waiting at a stoplight. Suddenly I heard BANG! … and I just knew what happened, the vehicle behind me was hit by a Toyota Camry and was pushed toward me… …I saw the Wrangler moving toward me and I inched up hoping I could escape it somehow but I couldn’t find a safe way out so planted the brake and decided to take it up the…
Im thinking making lemons into lemonade and getting a front splitter and having the nose repainted and PPFE while it’s in for repairs. Anything I need to be worried about otherwise? |

Get the car situated and then go to work. The only reason I say that cause you'll be sitting at home thinking about the car all day.

That isn’t too bad, a new bumper cover and maybe some support brackets
Still a PIA to deal with |

I’ve heard that body work has gotten very expensive lately. Some people have guesstimated about $5k in damage.
I want to get my nose repainted and splitter installed out of pocket while it’s in the shop. Should I expect to pay more for that too? Also what splitter should I go for? I know the SS is alittle different than the ZL1 fascia. |

Wow! Sorry to hear about what happened! I got hit making a left turn on a green arrow in mid-November; driver ran a red and I couldn't avoid it. Person that hit me did not have insurance so my insurance took care of the $7K of front end damage. Took 7 weeks to get my car back due to parts availability.
Glad to hear you are okay, cars can be fixed. Hopefully, you won't run into the parts availability issue I had. |

Picture show the cosmetic damage to the fascia. Worried about the damage to the actual structure behind the fascia. The bumper beam is likely also damage and maybe additional structure. Hope all is ok.

Remember to go after "diminished value" with whoever's insurance you file against. My SS Sedan was peppered with gravel from a gravel truck that was driving too fast (his load shifted as he was making an aggressive high speed turn and peppered my passenger side with gravel) and a few years ago some idiot woman rear ended me at a slow speed because she wasn't paying attention. When getting my vehicle appraised (trying to sell it privately before my Camaro order comes in to compare vs trade-in value) my Carfax shows those incidents and I've seen about $10K less than market value for it. Even if you have no intention of selling it, do yourself a favor as your car is now going to show that it was involved in an accident.

Damn! Sorry that happened to you guys, that is the reason I am always anxious when I take my SS out (it isn't my daily, it is my toy car, so I keep in pristine)... I've gotten better now that the car is 2 years old and has 5,400 miles on it, but I still keep my head on a swivel and watch everyone like a hawk... SoCal traffic is so damn bad it is hard to take it out and have some fun and get away from people... Can't wait until I move back East in a few years...

I hate the idea of threatening legal action, as we are a very litigious society but you have to protect your interests. Most adjusters understand diminished value and if you are financing the vehicle, you're also protecting your bank's interest (as they want to make sure that if your vehicle is repossessed that they can get their money back if it comes to selling your car at auction). Here's a list of 2017 Camaro 2SS's. https://www.cars.com/shopping/result...ice_min=&makes[]=chevrolet&maximum_distance=all&mileage_max=&model s[]=chevrolet-camaro&page_size=20&sort=list_price&stock_type=use d&trims[]=chevrolet-camaro-2ss&year_max=2017&year_min=2017&zip=78660 If you look at the lowest priced ones, most of them have an accident reported on their Carfax (you can look at the free reports). I say find one that is similar to yours without an accident reported, and find another one with damage reported. I figure it should be at least a $3000-$5000 price difference. I would wait until you get an estimate first as some adjusters will lower their estimate price if they figure you're going to get them for diminished value. |
