So educate me on e50 vs 93 vs 100

With all the donations from you wonderful folks for my little blower porting this fall, I'm wondering exactly what benefits at what venues with the various fuels available at both the 1/2 mile and road race events and (hopefully I'll also get down the 1/4 mile this fall/winter depending on if they ever consider covid a done deal and open it up.)

Car has headers, hi flow cats, 9.17 lower, rotofab, soler ported tb, jms voltage booster, e sensor and tune. Car was dynoed in cool air in feb with e45 on a mustang dyno and showed 688 at the wheels.

Typically at the 2 venues mentioned my aeroforce gauge will show e content between 40-45% no matter if I get it at the pump or mix 5 gallons of vp with 10 gallons of 91.

With the talk on another thread it's got me curious if I should be running 100 at the tracks or try to get to e50 or if one is better then another for roadcourse vs 1/2 mile stuff?

I'm also curious if when sending the blower off to Kong if they make a griptech quickchange pulley close to the oem size and have that done while they have it?

Thanks in advance for shared info!

E50 for sure. It's still 102-103 octane and better cooling properties. I would say anything above E40 has an advantage over 100 octane fuel.

Wait, to get E50, you are mixing 91 gas with E85, correct? If so, then I would suggest that you think about mixing 100 gas instead with your E85 to arrive at the E50. Reason being of course, little more octane. I am talking about for your race use, not daily driver of course.

Normal E85 is mixed with cheap gas to arrive at their theoretical ~104 octane that some people claim, from what I've heard. There's a company called Ignite that sells E85 that is mixed with high octane gas, and they seem to claim 114 octane for it. That's what I'm getting at, better gas in the mix means better knock resistance.

Exactly but when you start doing a 100 plus with E then your running up the cost also. Probably more cost effective to run the 93. My local stations are claiming E85 but really only E70 and its stated on the pump that it can vary from E53 to E85 but I've not been able to purchase pure E85 in my area. I can travel to a VP station and get true E85 abt about 20 more cents per gallon but I haven't seen a big difference in performance between the E70 I get and the VP stations E85. I do keep 10 gallons just for the track and I agree it probably helps a little with cooling. I'm sure the Ignite is just like the C85 VP offers but its $55.00 for 5 gallons and unless you balls out racing all the time it becomes pretty expensive to run it.

To get the desired ethanol content (depending on tune and fuel system)you basically mix pump 91 or 93 with e85 and test it. I think most people regularly use (should use) an ethanol test kit.
Race gas is also very expensive and isn't readily available at the pump in most places.
I like you don't trust pump gas when/if running a tune. E30-E85 makes a lot more power and safer than 91-93, and much more feasible than race fuel.

I use a Bluetooth analyzer. After I fill up I check an app on my phone and it tells me what my blend is in my tank. I can also check it with HP Tuners. My max blend at my altitude is e70, so those stations that mix to e70 at the pump are perfect for me.

True E85 is 109 octane. E70 is 105 octane. Most pump E85 is actually E70-E78 depending on location. There are actually a few pumps in my area that are E90. Most ignite products claiming 114 octane are E98 based.

Mixing E with 91 does yield 2 points lower octane opposed to mixing with 93.

E70 mixed with 93 to get E50 is 101.7 octane.

E70 mixed with 93 to get E40 is 100 octane.

Anything above E40 will provide good gains.
