3rd quarter sales drop 32%
https://www.google.com/amp/s/gmautho...r-q3-2020/amp/
But gmauthority "claimed" a 22% increase for Camaro sales in July. So what happened in August and September then? https://www.google.com/amp/s/gmautho...july-2020/amp/ |

Continuing off the other thread, I now really know about the inventory problem.
I didn't pay attention until I had a discussion about our experiences at the Big 3 dealerships with two other friends. One has a Hellcat Charger and he said the Dodge treats him so-so and he actually thinks GM is the best among them with the customer service and treatment, with the free oil changes and all. The other one had a terrible experience with the Ford dealers that just refused to lease him a Mustang. I tried to convince him to get a Camaro and wanted to go check out a few new ones at the dealers, except no one locally has any in stock. Well, there is one 2021 SS but we doubt they are gonna budge on the price. Other GM dealers had no new inventories. Might have him check out some leftover 19 C7 in Vancouver. Sent from toaster or something

"It’s also worth noting that Chevy doesn’t seem to be advertising the Camaro as much as key rivals, including Dodge."
"Going forward, we don’t believe that Camaro sales will see an uptick unless Chevrolet begins to offer significant incentives on the model, begins to heavily advertise it, or both." ________________________________________________ Evidently, the people at GMA are big idiots too and haven't been told they don't understand marketing, time and time again, like the rest of us here on the forum.

I deliver auto parts part time retired and since the beginning of this mess there have been very few Camaros on the lots. I am just starting to see the inventories fill up but most are still bare with only one or two Camaros and no corvettes. Truck inventories have really taken a beating also. We have a local GM truck plant and their huge lot is just now starting to fill up. can't sell something you don't have.

Having shopped for one recently there is no inventory and few incentives. If you want a specific color and trim you have to shop out if state which is what I needed up doing.

1 inventory, 2 poor incentives. $1750 on a $40,000 plus car is next to nothing. They have better incentives on their other cars & trucks at least until this month. I know I saw 15% on Equinox and maybe a few others, Trucks usually have 10%-15% off. Camaro gets about 3%-4% off MSRP. I know on Ford’s site I saw $3,750 off Mustang. If you’re buying a Performance car and you’re not brand loyal you’re probably buying where the best deal is at.
Also you can just toss in the beating a dead horse topic of Marketing. Dodge is on it’s game there, now they have a Talladega Nights inspired commercial with Reese Bobby and young Ricky & Cal as NASCAR heads to Talladega this weekend. I can’t think of last time I saw a good Chevy commercial for anything they make. Their performance on the NASCAR track is behind Ford & Toyota and Ford with it’s Mustang looks the best most weeks if you believe in “Win on Sunday, sell on Monday”.

Same APR for new or used. I saw a few ‘20 around when’s I was looking, & once again considered new, but $1,750 (think it was $1,500 then) factory rebate on a $74K with the same APR as used & locking the Tranny was a big “Nah, Dog” from this potential buyer. |

Just to give you an idea on inventory. Only a little over 3K new Camaro available nationwide (and some of those are sold orders), so likely less than 3K. Want a V8? About 1600 available nationwide. Want a V8 and a manual? 300 or so across the whole country.
Contrast that to Mustang. Over 12k available and over 1600 V8 manuals. Add in GT350/500 and it’s even more. Something tells me there are people who want to buy a Camaro and just can’t. |

I ordered a ‘20 and ended up with a ‘19 after a long story and 2 months of haggling with multiple dealers. It was still brand new, never titled, with 30 original miles on it.
If you want a manual SS it’s trucking impossible to get a new one in current model year for less than sticker. I’m happy with my ‘19 and got it for $4500 off sticker in Feb. at a different dealer than I originally ordered the ‘20 from (who, oh by the way, sold my Uncle his 2013 Corvette 427 convertible and my Mom her 2016 Stingray Z51 brand new for good deals), but I think I lucked out. I got it shipped from a dealer in Missouri and while my dealer was fine with honoring his advertised price, they had to haggle with each other and that took a week. GM is giving dealers zero margin on these cars. I figured out their margin is exactly what the rebate is, roughly $1500, because I took the price to multiple dealers and even came up slowly at the dealer my family all bought theirs at and they’d only go down the rebate and that’s it. |

I’ve never ONCE seen both a salesman and sales manager let us/me walk, calmly without desperation, over a $3,000 difference in sticker and offer price. In a $46,000 car no less. I’ve never even seen a dealer NOT make a counter offer. Heck I’ve never seen a dealer refuse to negotiate at all. This was the first time for it all. I completely understand them not wanting to “give them away” but this is not what I’m used to. |
