MBRP Race Catback Review Video Added!
Hi all,
Here’s my review of the MBRP T-409 stainless race exhaust: First, a big shout out to Ricardo at Phastek Performance for the great customer service and discount! Pros: Price, deep muscle car sound, tips, No CEL Cons: Packaging from MBRP To start, I know there’s been some complaints already regarding the packaging of this exhaust, basically it has no padding for the pipes. The tips are boxed and wrapped. Luckily, mine was not dinged dented or damaged at all. I realize that’s a big con for some, but the price of this exhaust was a good trade off to me. As far as the install, here in Southern CA, Eddie’s Mufflers did a great job. Highly recommended at a great price! I helped a little by attaching the NPP actuator valves to the included brackets. No check engine light. Basically, you relocate them and it does not utilize them. I debated on going with an exhaust that maintained the valves, but for me, I did not use this function much, as I found the stock NPP too quiet and ended up doing the fuse pull anyway. I went with the 409 stainless race version, which is basically straight pipe with Helmholtz style resonator tubes. It is full 3” and keeps the secondary cats. I already had my 2nd cats deleted, but decided to put them back on, and I was right! This exhaust is very loud and very deep. I’m still debating if it’s too loud for me, but on my second day of driving, I already got more used to the sound level. It definitely sounds like a muscle car now. As far as low end torque, it feels about the same, maybe a little seat of the pants increase– but without dyno’ing I would not have any idea if it has increased HP/TQ. Overall, it’s a great buy and a different approach from some of the other companies – straight pipe w/ resonators versus mufflers. The full 3” inch definitely changes the sound for the better. It is important to note that the posted videos of this exhaust on YouTube does NOT represent the sound in person. Online it sounds louder with a bit more growl than the stock NPP. In person, it is loud and much deeper than stock. Hope this helps with anyone considering this exhaust! I'll post a decent video as soon as I can! It Seems that most issues with CEL's and exhaust are coming from the AFM valves. I was concerned that remounting the NPP actuators would throw one but, happy to report it did not

That's weird. Sounds like they built their valves incorrectly or something. I've got stainless works headers all the way back to the stock muffler. My AFM motors are mounted on the stainless works afm valves and no codes for them. Been installed since April

Yeah the ones from stainless are free flow so they are allowed to move freely. I'm at a lost no clue why I'm drawing codes

I just need to adjust from the "stealth" sound of the NPP to the deeper/louder tone. The hemholtz resonators do work though, and there is very little if any drone at any RPM. |
