Question About USB For Music

I am wondering if a 1TB portable hard drive can be used as a music source for my system. 2018 ZL1 1LE.
I'm in the process of converting my LP collection to .mp3 format and it would be great to pack along my full collection on a planned road trip.

1 TB will hold about 200,000 songs. So if your LPs average 14 songs each, you can fit over 14,000 albums on it. Is your collection that big?

OP, to answer your question, it is unlikely to read your portable hard drive, but depends on the power required to power your device. Usually the power supplied by a USB is enough to power a USB stick, but not a complete hard drive. Also, the boot program used for harddrives is likely different than the simple ones in place on USB's. But hook it up and let us know what happens

OK I'll give it a shot. Car's in winter storage out of town but maybe I'll get out there before the end of April and try it.

Can our cars not play .mp3 straight from USB sticks? If so that is always a backup plan.

I've got a 2TB drive that needs no external power. I use it at home for backing up everything. I'll put some .mp3 music on it for you and see if it works tonight. Give me a couple of hours...

Been running a portable HDD for my music since 2016. I use bit a 500gig and a 1.5 TB and both work fine through USB.
