Here is the reason the modules can’t be programmed. Wish I had read about GM’s Global A architecture earlier:

I’m assuming this means you need to get this work done by GM and pay them big bucks to get this done? Surely there are other options that video is a little dated! Good luck.. I know you’ll figure it out in no time

You’ve earned the right to vent! I have really enjoyed watching the journey from the first pic of the car on a fork lift until now. You have great mechanical skills and courage to tackle something like this. I know you are frustrated and a little down because of the latest hurdle. I’m confident you will triumph and get to enjoy that beast on a track soon.
Thank you for sharing your experiences. I wish you good luck. Cheers!

Thanks guys.
So I’ve calmed down and checked to see if my original ABS module would work after successfully replacing and programming the chassis module. No go. I’ll order a new one. Ditto for the steering rack. The A/C line that was leaking appears to be another casualty of the header install. Looks like the gasket got beat up. They also didn’t replace the heat shield which would’ve been a good idea. I tried to install the DEI wrap but it appears the starter needs to come off to get around it. Not today. I did secure the steering wheel this time before removing the rack so that I won’t have to install another clockspring. Done until I drop more dough on parts Monday. Still waiting on an ABS module but decided to take it out and try to clear up some permanent engine codes I think are resolved. My first drive finally in a ZL1!!
Drove about 15 miles from my shop to my house. Initial impressions- no squeaks, rattles or clunks. Shocking since it was totaled then the whole car was taken completely apart. The ride is considerably stiffer than my ‘21 SS 1LE was in track mode but not as bad as I thought it might be. It won’t be a daily driver anyway. The transmission shifts waaay better than my son’s ‘16 SS we rebuilt. I think there’s more to that than just the throw reduction in the 1LE. What did surprise me is how much RPM I was turning, especially on the freeway. I know the ZLE has a lower 6th gear ratio, but 2500 RPM at 76 mph? Sure sounded like I needed another gear or two. Maybe the 3” Borla S-type with headers and cat delete pipes had something to do with it too. |

Congratulations on the first drive.
I also felt the same regarding 6th gear when I first drove my ZLE. I love this car. |

Thank you all!
Yes it felt great to finally get it on the road. My boys were as excited as I was. I still need to replace the ABS module, get the new modules programmed and A/C charged, hopefully no leaks. Then it goes to Cordes Performance next week to dyno tune it. Last, it will get inspected by the state next Friday so I can register it and get my plates. |
