Random clacking on cold start.. Ideas?

Have a 1ss, 1500 miles. Lately I've noticed a slight ticking on cold start.
Why I posting here is because I'm a little stumped..

It's not related to the rpm. It's random and not with the speed of the engine.

It happens maybe 2-3 minutes into warm up. And last for maybe 2-3 minutes then goes away. (I let my oil temp get to 100+ before driving it)

It's coming from the passenger front area but wouldn't think it's from any engine accessories.

It almost sounds as if it's spark knock but this is the only time I hear it.and I always use chevron 91 octane.

Does anyone else hear anything similar to this? Having worked at dealerships before I'd rather not take it in because of how techs treat customer cars. And I have already checked for misfires with a scanner. Any ideas or is it just me?

Thanks!

Hopefully the video is clear but please take a look. I can't see this as being normal. This is just a short video of it but you can hear it clearly.

This.

It is quite normal for our LT1 to make that sounds and is a bit louder even at idle and seems "abnormal" but it isn't.

Yeah mine is a bit noisy like this too at startup, just like people complaining about the roughness of the engine, just how the engine runs, designed like this. The LT1 is not a smooth DOHC V6.

Sorry, that is a pretty good metallic clack going on there. The regular ticking is the DI and the DI fuel pump working. Just not a good way to quiet down 20,000PSI.

Now, the RANDOM clacking is something odd. That is not a DI tick. The fact that its not in a rhythm means something is off. Check the oil. Good?

If you do take it in, I'd take a longer video. They will keep the car overnight because it only happens when cold so that is a bummer but with the longer video you can at least show them that it doesnt just happen for a few minutes.

The oil is good, just changed it 300 miles ago. I did record a another video but it happens maybe for 3-5 minutes tops and it's not on immediate start up. I know what a D.I. Engine sounds like but like you said it's the random clacking that is making me question it.l, Almost like a lifter noise.

That clacking is not the DI system..........I know I'll sounds stupid for saying this. But the irregularity of the sound makes it almost sounds like the exhaust heat shield. It it loose, perhaps? Making noises as it warms up and expands?

Probably worth a trip to the dealer...

Curious if anything ever came of this? My 1SS makes the *exact* same sound as the video you posted, it seems to go away when warm. I was thinking it might be a heat shield or something, since it is loud and not in rhythm with the engine?

You can't hear it from inside the car at all.

Hey did they ever figure out the noise? I seem to have it as well I’m cold start up. I can slightly replicate it once warm by giving it 200 rpms more and letting off in natural. It does sound like a clack or a rod maybe tapping. Who knows but I have almost 2 years left of warranty. Don’t want to lose out on having it at the dealer. So I guess hopefully it blows if it’s something and if not hopefully it lasts me forever.

Use stethoscope or big screw driver and check out 2 pleases.

1- The fuel line, exactly when the fuel line go to the engine, driver side, here there is fuel check valve , it makes tick.
2- EVAP valve, it’s beside throttle body, BMW cars have tick sound comes from it.

I think in the video up , tick comes from the fuel line, because it’s louder in the driver side
