Skip Shift Eliminator Reverse Lockout

Just a PSA to everyone, I installed a skip shift eliminator a few weeks ago from a VERY reputable manufacturer. Had one on my 4th Gen, worked just fine. After I installed this one I noticed going into reverse was REAL hard. Googled around and ran into a 5th Gen thread where a guy was having a similar problem and a seasoned GM wrench told him it was his skip shift eliminator. Figuring it’s free to give that a whirl, I pulled mine off today and of course she slides into reverse perfectly now...go figure.

I have the phastek one and no problems here.
You may have installed the product in the reverse lockout solenoid instead. They look exactly the same.
I saw the mistake made on Camaro5 several times.

No issues whatsoever with mine and I installed it myself. BTW, the installation was a PITA...especially if you have large hands.

Sounds like you installed it on the reverse lockout solenoid and not the skip shift, the plugs are identical. The skip shift is on the driver's side on top of the transmission and the reverse lockout is farther back. If it was easy to install you got the wrong one, use a long skinny screwdriver to unlock the tab.

LOL yea you installed it on the wrong one. You put it on the reverse lockout and not the 2nd gear lockout (which you need like a 14 inch flathead to reach above the transmission) i did the same

Got mine from Summit Racing. Works perfectly and reverse is no issue at all.

But, like Agent K said, it was a real PITA to install with big hands and thick arms. Had to use some long pliers.

Exactly what I was going to say.

As others have said it’s probably on wrong plug. I know because I did the same thing even though it was on my lift. Went to move the car a few days after the fact and no reverse! After I had my oh !?%^* moment where I thought my car with probably 150 miles at the time had tranny problems I realized what I had done. Felt pretty dumb for sure. I’ve had them on a couple t5-6 cars in the last but this seemed pretty tough to get to in Comparison.

Not related to the question but...

I have had the skip shift feature on my C5 and C6 Z06 and it worked as designed and just dealt with it, but in my SS 1LE, no matter how mellow I drive and even when I shift with the little message on the dash saying it will activate, it never has once since I had the car.

I am at 6,500 miles now and not once has it tried to put me in 4th from 1st.

I was thinking maybe the skip shift eliminator was installed before I bought the car from maybe someone who maybe took delivery but couldn't get financed and had to turn it back in, but my car had 6 miles on it when I picked it up, so I doubt that could be it.

Not that I am complaining, just strikes me as odd that I have never once tripped it even when I was in the parameters to do so and with the messaging saying it would.

The things that make you go hmmmm.......

The message stays on the dash even after the conditions to enable it are no longer met for a short period of time. You can find the enable conditions in the owners manual and intentionally shift within those conditions to see if the solenoid is plugged in. Otherwise next time you're under there, check to see.

I'm not concerned about it. I am glad it doesn't go on. I am very sure I have met the criteria for it to activate many times when driving in downtown areas.
