NGK TR5IX spark plug gap

Getting ready to install a set of NGK TR5IX plugs & I need to know what gap I should go with. I keep finding conflicting info. Should they be .040 or .060? This is on an NA LS3, no boost, stock cam.

.60 gap was pre 2005.Gm changed to .40. Dont try to gap them.Just install out of the box.

The old plugs didn't look too bad

I know you have to be extremely careful when gapping iridium plugs, but out of the box, the NGK's were .020-.025. That's way too tight. I opened them up to .040. It idles much smoother now.

I used the Hinson 25 ohm/ft wires:

They were about $65 on Amazon.

Yes its .040 and the 6s and 55/ 5s of ngk and most likely the 7s even are .039 I think and close enough to call the .040 out of the box supposedly..your testing it showed different though...some like larger gaps for more spark area but that's a hot rod thing you should be fine with most all SBC and BBC running .035 gaps for their plugs for like 75 years mostly unless modified heavily.

They recommend not gapping electrodes on Iridium plugs as you can damage them.

I installed mine as is out of the package with a little anti seize on the threads.
