How Many Watts Is The Bose 9-Speaker System?

I love the stereo system in my 2LT. The 9-speaker system Sounds fantastic and I only have it cranked up half way. Ha Ha! I'm so glad I went with this.

But, what is the actual wattage that this system puts out? 600 watts? 900 watts?

Bose tends to never advertise these kinds of numbers. Any high number like 600 or 900 would be peak power, which is kind of meaningless anyway. RMS power output is more meaningful.

The output can be measured, although only serious hobbyists will have an oscilloscope (I don't).

An easier way to get pretty good info is to open the Bose amplifier and see what drivers they use. Bose does NOT make their own IC drivers. Most likely they are ST Microelectronics drivers. The drivers will be affixed to the heatsink and will have numbers on them. Then it's simply a matter of going to the ST Micro web site and looking at the datasheets. That will give a good ballpark of what the amps can do. You might have to look at the amp a little more closely. Sometimes two drivers can be run in bridged mode (within the amp), which might be the case for the amp driving the 6x9 woofers on this camaro. The ST Micro website will typically give specs for bridged mode as well as stereo mode.

Not trying to split hairs here, but I thought it was 7 speakers, and 6 on the 1LT/1SS? Is that correct?

If you never turn it to full volume, (and who does that?)... it really doesn't matter what the maximum power consumption is.

I've never turned the stock systems past 1/3 volume. Don't need the hearing damage.

I read this on the final print order available in .pdf file format that discusses in depth all of the options. I downloaded from this site.

6 speakers on the 1lt and 1ss
9 speakers on the 2lt and 2ss

It's not the power consumption that's measured in stereo amplifiers, it's the power output.

Looks like the vert has 7. Missing two speakers where the top is stored. That must be where my confusion came from.

I stand corrected.

The other thing with Bose is their speakers are typically low impedance ( 2 ohms or less). Typical car speakers are 4 ohm. It takes half the power to drive a 2 ohm speaker compared to 4 ohm to get the same volume level. The amps have to be rated to drive the low impedance. You have to watch out for some of these non-conventional "features" when working with Bose car stuff.

First, you can't measure real output power when there is EQ

Second, there are a few dead guys (Volta, Ohm, Watt(P)) that determine what power can be produce. You only have a 12.7V battery, so that takes care of V, unless you have a boost supply in the amplifier. A really, really good power amplifier IC will let you get 9.5-10Vrms @ 10%THD+N out when battery is at 14.4V (Charging). Let's just say the woofer is 1 Ohm for simple math.

P=V^2/R = (10*10)/1 = 100/1 = 100W

That's pretty much the best you can do on battery. You can never reach full power with EQ and compressors.

Not on the new Camaros. They have a 9 speaker Bose system now!

The 2019-20 does have a few updates over the pre-refresh 2016-18, but this isn't one of them. The RPO code 'UQA' denotes the 9-speaker Bose system on coupes and a 7-speaker system on convertibles with all of these cars.

The funny thing is, my 2020 2SS has the Bose 9 speaker system, but I have hardly even listened to it, I love the sound of my NPP much better than the stereo!!!

I had been looking at these cars for well over a year and just noticed that there is no CD player! I know I'm a little behind the times being a bit older than a lot of you and not up with the latest tech. But I would really rather have a CD player rather than using one of those SD cards or whatever they use now. Is there a way to install one or would it be better to plug in an external unit and if so where could you put it. Btw, its a similar situation with the Challenger, but Mustang still offers one. Also, does anybody know how the Bose system compares to the Harmon Kardon in the Challenger?
