Change my Oil?

Ok, come this October I will be putting away my 1LE for 6 months.
Sleeping in the garage.
I'm guessing the oil in her will have right around 3k Miles.
Should I change the oil before I put her away or after I wake her up after 6.5 months?

if the oil had less than 1000 or so, Id leave it, but 3000 I would change before it goes to sleep. only what I would do....

Great question, I will be doing the same.

My thoughts were if I am at that 1500 mi mark i would do the oil trans and rear diff before putting her up for the winter.

Curious to see everyone's responses.

Change it before.

Why put your baby to bed with a dirty diaper?

I'm thinking the new oil will get somewhat contaminated during the first start due to what ever doesn't come out of the pan, along with all the parts coated with old oil.

After putting in new oil, the oil is going to sit in the garage at the bottom of the pan for 6+ months with the temperature ranging from -15F to 50 above degrees.

In the spring when I wake her up, will that fresh oil really be still fresh and new?

Maybe I should go balls to the wall, change it when I put her away and change it again when I wake her up.

If it were me, I wouldn't change and then sit it for over 6 months. That sounds ass backwards. You only have 3000 miles on the oil, i'd leave it in over winter, then when you pull it out of hibernation, change the oil and be fresh for the driving season.

So you willingly put the baby to bed with a dirty daiper, letting all the nasty acids, water and other contaminants eat away at its tender internals and underside.

Your baby sez:

Pretty sure that his oil with 3k on it, would test perfectly fine to sit 6 months without damaging anything.

Change it but do not reset the OLM until she comes out of hibernation. Leave yourself a note on the steering wheel so you remember to reset it. That way she sleeps clean and in the spring starts out at 100%

Absolutely change it! Contaminated oil can be corrosive to internal engine parts. It’s very cheap insurance for me.

You should ALWAYS change your oil when storing it.

I think I'll nip it right in the bud and do it twice.
I'll change it before I store it. Then, take if for a 20 minute ride in the spring and change it again.
$50.00 each way, what the hell. It's easy and takes thirty minutes at best with the race ramps.
I'll even change the filter each time...
