Coolant Leak - Bad T-Stat Housing
Hey all,
I had my 2018 SS in for service this week. I had noticed a couple of weeks ago, low coolant levels. I topped it off but knew it had to be going somewhere. I finally noticed that there was a pretty good leak, which ended up coming from a bad t-stat housing. Has this happened to anyone else? I noticed at one point Mishimoto was developing a billet replacement (which got cancelled. Did they get banned from this forum??) I also see that LMR has one they offer for an absurd amount of money. I had the part replaced under warranty so this was not a big problem, but I wanted to start poking around and see what path you guys have gone down here. Do most boosted guys run the OEM plastic t-stat housing? Thanks all! |

I had this issue on an 2005 mustang V6. For the V6 guys, the thermostat became a wear item, replacing it every 30k to 50k miles. They also had a guy that made metal ones, but the cost was so high that you could afford to replace the plastic one like 4 times before it made sense to get the metal one. Mine blew up right before i got home one day, but it was an easy fix.
sad to learn the LT1 engine is using a plastic thermostat housing too. :/ |
