Intermittent xm reception issues

The last of the items I'm working through on this 2017 ZL1 I recently purchased.

The dealer estimated $840 to remove the headliner and look for a short in the antenna. Anyone else had experience with this?

No experience, but the headliner only comes out via the front, so the windshield also needs to be removed and reinstalled, which is probably why the dealer quoted that exorbitant looking number.

check with xm, there is a known frequency conflict issue. All our 2017 GM and a 07 Soltice GXP have it. In other words, might not be your car... Comes and goes...

I have a 2017 SS and lose connection in certain spots often. If you are loosing reception in same areas it's not your antenna. I lose it in same areas and it gets worse in the winter months. Guess it's position of the earth and satellite. Mine is a vert so antenna is mounted on the trunk deck lid which also makes it more vulnerable to bad reception. Trucks next to me sometimes blocks reception. I took mine in when it was new and they tested it and said it was working normally even as I took a ride with the tech about 100 feet from the dealership where i lose reception. Of course mine is easy to test since it is mounted on the trunk and easy to remove/replace. I doubt it's your antenna. None of my other cars have the issue and I've had 3 since I bought my Camaro. Sometimes I just switch to music on my usb stick.

Save the $840 and cancel the XM subscription and use a usb of your favorite songs. Why tear your Camaro up over something they don't know will fix it.

Huge gamble to undertake if it’s not a known, 100% guaranteed fix. The windshield is installed at the factory using laser guided robots. Meaning it’s perfectly aligned and set with just the exact right amount of pressure. No human can replicate that. It will never be perfect again.

Also reinstalling all your interior parts, may develop squeaks and rattles if they aren’t reinstalled perfectly again.

I notice that passing near certain cell towers will make the xm signal drop. It's worse in my Jeep. It's not that bad though and only happens maybe once or twice a trip for a few seconds passing those areas.

+1 on this.

XM sucks. I gave up on it 15 years ago when I first had it in a new car because of all the places where the signal just drops for absolutely no immediately apparent issue. On top of that, the massive compression that's used on the data makes it all sound like it's under water to me.

I have all of my music on a few different USB drives and swap them out depending on what sort of stuff I'm interested in listening to. An 8G drive will easily hold about 500 songs.

$840?? What package did you have or how many vehicles is that? Lol. I pay around $130/year for two subscriptions. It’s still not really worth the price, but I can barely tolerate FM stations (I never use them) and I don’t always want the hassle of playing off of my phone.

Side note-the Camaro is by far (already) the worst vehicle I’ve owned in regards to XM signal. It works but I’ve noticed there are many more outage areas compared to my previous cars. Also the Bluetooth is one of the slowest to connect that I’ve had.

The XM satellites are near the equator. Take note of where your reception is poor. If it's always who there's a hill to your south, it's just the nature of satellite radio.

Did you actually read the post? That cost has nothing at all to do with XM programming.

Satelllite radio does have a line of sight tied to it, consider that. I was a very early adopter way back when XM and Sirius were separate and that's always been a thing with it that can make you think or feel like there's a problem. if you're in "open" space and have glitchy reception that's something to consider.

I have the same issue with my SUV, sometimes no issue for weeks and then it acts up.
