Lt4 tensioner vs Lt5 tensioner

To use 10pk belt, I am purchasing LT5 stuff which is using 11 ribs.

Somehow the idlers from Whipple are having some problems with high speed rev or high torque? While the genuine lt4 idlers are ok from Meggi 2300.

Shinysun, you were ahead of the curve my friend. The Whipple uses a “CTS-V tensioner” according to their install manual and as you mentioned, at higher blower speeds & torque needs, it does not make enough tension. I just ordered the TooHighPSI tensioner upgrade kit (which uses the LT5 tensioner) since I’m told the LT5 tensioner will not fit in an LT4 tensioner bracket. This kit comes with the billet tensioner bracket too.

How long have you been using the LT5 tensioner? Any issues?

is the bolt pattern the same on the tensioner? plug n play? I was going to do that same upgrade but the guy at scoggin dickey had them in his hand over the phone and said the pattern was different. the LT5 pulleys are pretty darn cheap to swap out didn't know if it was just that simple...

what's all needed?, I assume...

Lt5 tensioner
LT5 idlers (or just buy the smooth pulley w bearings in them a bearing store by gates or dayco and a longer bolt.
10 rib blower pulley (edelbrock has them)
10 rib ATI lower.
10 rib belt, I noticed the belt sizes get pretty far and between on the gates site I think 10 is ok but 11 and 12 few choices..

Mike Sitar (TooHighPSI) told me the LT5 tensioner does not fit the LT4 bracket. They make a billet bracket that allows you to use the LT5 tensioner on the Camaro. I literally just did this upgrade last night and am now tracking down belts.

Also, for what it’s worth, the Whipple tensioner is an OEM LT4 tensioner. The original post in this thread has that incorrect. My thoughts are that the LT4 tensioner was designed for 8 ribs and when you use it on 10 ribs the tension per rib is less, leading to unsatisfactory performance at top level blower speeds. The LT5 was designed for 11 ribs so it should rock and roll on a 10 rib belt.

So the lt4 tensioner with a wider puller on it will not work? I haven't had any slip issues yet but I'm planning on giving the wife my motor for her ss and building her block for me. Try to make the 1200 plus.

How much was the tensioner bracket?

You can run LT4 tensioner with 10 rib, that’s the Whipple 2.9 out-of-the-box setup. But it’s not great when you really start pushing hard.

I paid $1K for all of it. Big 10-rib lower pulley, bracket, tensioners, new idlers, etc. Comes as a kit.

Edit: here you go. https://toohighpsi.com/products/cama...s-lower-pulley

I love mine and have been running the toohighpsi tensioner pulley system and the Port Injection system since late August. Easy install and killer looks. Not running high boost but if I ever do I don't need to worry about slipping. Josh, hope your belts show tomorrow, making some boost for sure.

No problem

Order the griptec blower pulley direct from ZPE. Griptec is the only way to fly IMO. Edit: here you go. https://zpegriptec.com/
