Optimal Octane?

Does anyone know what the optimal octane level is for the ZL1. On the Torco label it says you can raise it 14 points with 128 oz. However, I’m told that there is a ceiling benefit based on the compression ratio of the engine. I don’t mind putting in 4 bottles when I go to the track but I don’t want to waste $25/bottle if it’s not doing any good either. Thanks in advance

If I'm not mistaken, 14 points is only an increase of 1.4 octane..I certainly don't believe it would take an entire gallon of octane booster for that.

I was considering trying some last year but did eventually find a local station with 93 and top tier so I never ended up purchasing any. I don't think finding 93 in TX should be an issue.

Maybe somebody else will jump in and offer actual information but I personally don't see any reason to use octane booster unless you're running less than 93 or if it's really hot out. I just don't think you're going see any benefit on a car that's factory tuned for 91 or 93...nothing higher.

I used RaceGas on the dragstrip last fall, mixed 16 oz into about 10 gallons of 93 pump gas. This didn't raise octane drastically, only to 95-96, but it was just enough to clean up the 0.5-2 degrees of KR the car had at the top of 3rd and 4th gear. Car is approx. at or a bit above stock ZL1 power level. Ambient temp at the track was about 90 degrees.

Seems the 93 octane served up here in northern NJ isn't exactly the best, even after trying different stations, mostly BP and Shell. (Yes, I know there is little difference between them, oh well.)

I believe that Ted Jannetty said that 100 octane was good for 30 hp without a tune. I hope that I'm not misquoting him. I run the RaceGas race fuel concentrate as well bringing up our 91 octane to 95 octane.

ACZ28 is absolutely correct and one has to be careful about points of octane vs numbers of octane. It takes 10 points of octane to raise up the octane number by 1. e.g. 10 points of octane raise 93 to 94 not to 103.

If I recall, the Owner's Manual states the car would start pulling timing on anything less than 93. So anyone on 91, could find some retard.

Link, and you are correct, per Ted, up 20-30rwhp on OEM tune with 100 octane.

Torco advertises that as 14 actual points, so from 93 to 107 octane.

Don't think anyone actually tested this, but lots of people have had good success with Torco using far less quantities (128oz is ALOT), so I believe it's more than just 1.4 octane for 14 points.

The label says +14 Octan 32oz with 5 gallons of gas. 128oz with 20 gallons of gas to get +14 Octane. It advertises “mix with 5 gallons of Premium Unleaded to make a whopping 105 Octane”

4oz of Boostane will raise 16 gal of 93 to 95-96 according to the owner of boostane. I’ve tried it but have no way to verify or disprove this claim. Now I’m running 93 and meth.

There are warnings I believe in the owners manual about using additives with MMT. Might want to double check.

If you plan to run a booster often it pays to order the 5gal of Boostane. That is what i do. When you catch it on sale it brings the cost down to ~$8-9 per can depending on which sale you catch. I know they have 15%off coupon code on google right now with free shipping. I have another 5gals being delivered today.

A light spray of 100% meth does the same thing
