140 ft-lbs lug nuts addendum
There's an addendum page that comes in the bag with the owner's manual stating correct wheel lug nut torque is 140 ft-lbs, not the 110 ft-lbs printed in the manual. I was quite surprised as I've never owned a car that wasn't 100 ft-lbs.

I believe they changed the 5th Gen from 120 to 110 as well....

My 2010 CTS-V's owner's manual stipulates 140. At one point, the was a GM TSB recommending 158 for the fronts to combat a wheel-clicking problem that some cars had.

Holy crap.. really? I'd never torque a lug nut that tight against anything but a steel wheel.
100 tops for me. Maybe this is to compensate for people that don't realize they have to retorque after driving a bit?? |

I believe it's been 140 since 2010. I could be mistaken, it may have been 120. I spent 28 years in the tire and wheel business. If GM says 140 I would strongly recommend 140. The thing has 14 mm studs, and obviously it's not going to warp the rotors. Fear of breaking a stud or warping the rotors would be the only real concerns and I don't see either of those being an issue. Personally I would be more concerned with losing a wheel. Just my experience and personal opinion.

Not this again... lol.
I've been torquing my lug nuts on my 5th gen to 140 for six years and haven't had a problem - even after the time I let the dealership do it and they over torqued the nuts so bad I had to use my floor jack on the wrench handle for each and every nut just to create enough force to get them moving. |
