I Found two sponges in the rear of my car! Holy cow
Well-sort of! Just a little curious the other day so I put my car up on my new ramps to try them out prior to my upcoming oil change. Got to looking at those humongous mufflers setting there and wondered just how much water could be in there?
Well I did not see any dripping out and I have had her since October,2009.So I thought man I should be seeing something coming out of those weep holes with the engine running. But not a drop.So I preceded to get a stiff wire and ran her up into the weep holes and they were blocked solid.A little bit of poking and did the water start dripping out.I bet it dripped for and half hour to forty five minutes for sure.Well then I took her out on the highway and blew her out.Now I wonder what all that moisture has done & has it created back pressure and restricted the flow of the engine?Definitely a pi-- poor design for sure.Have seen earlier posts with same issue but no followup on what effect this has on the life span of the muffler & exhaust system.Any first hand accounts?

There shouldn't be any backpressure problems. It's a straight through design with only a small portion of the pipe being perforated. If the water were to fill up to the point of going into the holes, it would be blown out the rear. All the space is for muffling the exhaust that seeps out the perforations.

Buzzy I had the same issue. It didn't seem to hurt anything. Won't happen again come Tuesday when my Magnaflow comp catback goes on. |

Actually, the L99 mufflers are not straight through like the LS3's mufflers (AFM reasons). There's some sort of "dump out" pipe within the enclosure to eliminate drone with the AFM. There's a thread around here somewhere with pictures...

Yes there is but the muffler itself isn't baffled, like most other mufflers. Essentially, it's straight through. The "dump tube" doesn't impede the flow of exhaust.
