oil question

I was wonder if any one uses AMSOIL in their camaro? I was talking to a rep at Chevy Nats and was wondering if the hype behind it is there. Right now I'm still milking the free oil changes from Chevy but I want to put a good product in the motor.
Thanks all

I do since I'm a dealer. I know of people that put only AMSOIL fluids/filters in their cars and swear by it, personally I don't care that much. It's good oil and I get it for cheap, that's really all I care about. I have no problem putting M1 in my car.

To me AMSOIL at full retail price of $12 a quart (only one store in town sells it) is not worth the hype. I do know a dealer and can get it a little cheaper but still even then, M1 is fine as far as I'm concerned. Thats just my .02 though.

all I've ever used is M1 5W-30 and delco filters

It's the best oil out there for the money, I'd only go into higher end oils like that if my LS3 was built for racing and nothing else

Knew a guy who did he upgraded to a sixth gen, I use driven racing ls30. I don't believe ever in 10k miles on oil as its changed..... but they make good stuff and they have like the only comparison of 5-w30 synthetic oils online showing how much better it is than say a Mobil one even redlines and lucas and such..Penzoil ultra I think is the one on their list I would have been most likely to choose for over the counter when it comes to wear , anti foaming, sheer, cling etc etc..... Look it up http://www.amsoil.com/lit/G3115.pdf

We have a section for this...mechanical maintenance/oil/fluids etc. I would suggest going there and doing some reading. Tons of oil info and threads

I think too many people overthink this subject.

First, I'm not keeping my car long enough to worry about which oil is the best (these LS engines with recommended oils go well past 200K). Second, with the M1 I run, the engine will outlast the chassis. Did I miss something?

Just wanted to thank you for the post. I've been on car, motorcycle and UTV forums for years, and this has to be the first time I've read an Amsoil user, let alone a dealer, give what seems like an honest, common sense answer. I don't use it, have studied it a bit, and just can't buy into the intense hype that seems to come from many of it's users. I don't doubt it's a good product, but to continually hear it's the holy grail of lubricants is tiring. Thanks.

I use Shell Rotella T synthetic. It's usually about $40 for two gallons. I haven't found a better synthetic for less.

Rotella is sworn by with truck drivers. And I have seen it works for hundreds of thousands of miles.
But, you aren't driving an 18 wheeler.

There are different clearances in truck engines than there are in automobile engines.

At 20K miles, I decided to go to amsoil and not take it to the dealer. It has seemed to be a decent oil. I bought their middle grade one that was about $8 a quart I believe. They do have their other one that's about $12 a quart. I decided against it because it says something about hardcore racing or towing and stuff so I said no thanks. I did notice an improvement over gas mileage however. I usually average around 15.2-15.5. After the change, I was averaging about 16.8. I thought it was pretty crazy since I usually do have my pedal to the floor and because I haven't had it that high in quite some time. But I have read a lot of good things on amsoil so I will continue with them.

I'm not buying going from the OEM blend to amsoil would make a change in efficiency, let alone 10% fuel economy. That's unbelievable.
