Potential new Camaro Owner - couple questions for the veterans out there.

I have a line on a low mileage (12k) 2012 2SS - may be purchasing in the next day or 2. The car is 100% stock, which is what I want for now - I would rather I know and oversee any changes.

Questions:

1. How does the car work with an iPhone? I fiddled with it a bit at the dealer, but am interested in input from others.

2. How quickly do you go through tires? the SS has low pro tires, and my previous experience was they burn out pretty fast.

3. Gas - best performance is premium, correct?

4. Anything I should pay extra attention to?

Thanks guys. I have been reading the forum for several weeks, and appreciate the knowledge and experiences.

Works just fine, music wise and phone wise.

2. How quickly do you go through tires? the SS has low pro tires, and my previous experience was they burn out pretty fast.

Depends on the tire and how you drive, just like any other car.

It’s what is required per owners manual.

4. Anything I should pay extra attention to?

Speed limit signs, checking account, anal puckering, bladder control and the overwhelming urge to park your car so you can see it from wherever you’re sitting in the restaurant.

Thanks guys. I have been reading the forum for several weeks, and appreciate the knowledge and experiences.

Is it an A6? If so, was the lifter TSB performed?

Oh so true, words of wisdom. Parking where you can see it, priceless...

Please don’t try to drive on summer tires in winter. If this has to be a daily driver, get a second set of wheels with winter tires. There is a TR rep over in the tires section.

I bought a 2012 low mileage 1SS in July. I love it! I'm a 65 year old guy in a second childhood!

Mine is an automatic with the L99 engine. The AFM (Active Fuel Management which shuts down 4 cylinders at highway speeds) was very irritating with the switching back and forth. So I purchased the AFM Disabler from Range Technology which plugs into the OBD-2 port. Now the SS runs like I would expect a nice muscle car to run.

The Range Device is a MUST on the L99 unless tuned.

Well 2012 was before MyLink, so your IPhone pairing will be through Bluetooth (I believe it is still Bluetooth even with MyLink).

If you like smoky burn outs, count on buying rear tires maybe every two years, depending on the compound. With normal driving you should get good longevity out of the tires.

Gas, Premium although you could use middle grade. Premium will offer the best performance.

The mileage is good for the year. Check for excessive paint issues such as scratches, rock chips around the gills, front bumper, small dings (dings drive me nuts). My standards are very high, but just guage the car based on what you are expecting.

If for some reason something doesn't seem right with the car, don't be afraid to walk and keep shopping. I encourage you to shop around and look at other examples. You definitely could find other deals, and you may even find a better deal if you are patient. Good luck.
