General Motors announces the end of the internal combustion engine is coming
I was very surprised to read this. I guess we knew for a while this was on the way it's just crazy to hear it from the horse's mouth.

Buy whatever sports car you want now, because enjoyable vehicles are soon going to be relics.

Back To The Future:
"Electric automobiles are nothing new. They actually have a rich history in the US and, at one point, were even the dominant type of car in the late 1800's and early 1900's." http://www.businessinsider.com/elect...-early-1900s-1 GM is just dialing back the clock about a century in their corporate offices and looking in their old file cabinets. The Astronauts in the 1960's and 1970's drove around in electric cars on the Moon. 100% of the cars on the moon are electric. ;-) Our current engines are going the way of the steam engines.

Yep, most of the 'electric' crazy crowd doesn't know it either. Most of them also don't have a clue where that electricity comes from, that they charge their cars up with (as they sit and wait), or where the toxic elements in the battery are mined. Ignorance is bliss to some. /rantoff

Just wow.... I still don't see the advantage of electric vehicles. You're right, Where do they think that "clean" power comes from... Just sticking their heads in the sand and letting everyone know how much better they are for it. Not to mention the excessive pollution of the manufacturing processes for some batteries/parts. Hydrogen? 1/3 the efficiency of electric? And some other EV owners talking about 1 to 2 hour charge for 14 or 15 miles of driving? Are you kidding me? Im sure we will get there at some point and have some sweet cars still, but this is retarded. What about people who travel. People whos jobs require 6 or 800 miles in one day to get to a jobsite. I can't wait hours for a charge to get 200 miles at a time. Hasn't this global warming crap been disproved enough times yet to quit using that as an excuse for this crap technology?
Don't get me wrong, I understand the pollution, the oil dependency, etc etc etc. I just don't think the world is close enough to ready for this kind of change yet. Let alone the electric usage increase/cost/infrastructure. The benefits will not even equal out at this point. Power failures due to over stressed grids, weather, acts of war, or any other bs. I'll take my chances with a full tank of gasoline. Hell just a quick search on Telsa website shows 300 miles for just under 9 HOURS for Model S and 10 for a Model X. Nobody I know has time for that. Seriously first time looking into it. I was really starting to see more and more of these cars on the road and liking the looks of them as hard core Chevy V8 as I've always been. This just killed it for me before even really checking their cars out... Also a lot of arguments about electric becoming more renewable/ wind solar/ etc. Why does my bill keep going up and up and up with so many wind mills nearby? Have yet to see any savings. Another post stated one state was giving its power to neighboring states because they weren't consuming all that was being produced. Giving it away. But the consumers don't see that in their bill do they?

I find that hard to believe. What are they going to do with the ever so popular heavy duty trucks?

Believe it.
We are screwing our way into extinction. In the past 100 years, we’ve increased the world population by 3 1/2 times. More efficient cars are just a drop in the bucket of what people in a couple generations will have to do. How about limited numbers of cars by issuing limited numbers of permits that cost $70k just for the permit? It’s a reality today in Singapore. Young people will see drastic changes in the way we live in their lifetime. https://www.populationmatters.org/th...SAAEgKeq_D_BwE

And the population of the US fairly flat other than immigrants as those who don't give a rip screw til they drop and overpopulate.....so they can take over the world with their progeny.... Yes alternative fuels have been squashed by big fuel and the government controlling us....anyone remember a certain fellow making a engine that could get like forever per mile of water......oh that's right its was so brief he showed it off then was immediately squashed in the press and killed and his invention disappeared........

Not interested. I'll vote with my wallet wherever I can. Even if I have to build and/or maintain my old hotrods and make my own fuel. lol

I believe it, but it saddens me. We are almost at the point where it doesn't matter which car you would buy, as they all basically do the same thing and they are all disposable. The death of combustion engines means the death of all of the character we've grown to know from automobiles; It means the death of Camaro, Corvette, Sierra Denali, Silverado, Tahoe, Suburban, CTS-V and any other meaningful GM product.
If and when this happens, I will no longer buy GM products. I might as well buy Toyota or Honda, as these companies have had a greater hold on electric products, and have good reputations.

Tesla type plug in cars are just a stepping stone. The electric drive technology development was the valuable product of plug in cars. Straight plug ins are unsustainable and have limitations of range and recharge time. But in the past 20 years, we’ve seen battery technology jump beyond gains made in the internal combustion engine over a century.

Thats not a bad idea. Hell E85 is basically moonshine with some gas in it. It's renewable and easyish to make

It's called inevitablity....like it or not, it WILL happen whether it's 50 or 100 years down the road. I'm enjoying the ride as long as I can afford to.....love the renaissance of the muscle car!
