Break in Procedure

I''m getting a 1lt and the owners manual says the break in is 1500 miles, but I feel that thats a bit overkill, is that much really necessary?

Follow the owners manual. Anyone who says otherwise thinks they know more about the car than the actual people who designed it.

The people who design it don't write the manual. Drive it hard.

I'm going to leave rubber at the dealer when I pick it up as a thank you for a great car! Then the next day it will go to FSP for some "fine tuning"!

Anyway there are hundreds of posts on this OP, split about 50/50. I suggest you read, read, read, then read some more and then drive that bitch like you stole it!!! Lol

You mean the lawyers??? Yea they did a good job at designing the owners manual to protect their client.

You're really tuning it right after? I'm going to hold off for awhile. But yeah the first thing I did in the car was a 1-3 pull on the highway on ramp.

It depends. If ARH has their headers done by the time I get my car then yes, if not then once they finally are done. Either way I'd expect to be tuned well before I reach 1k miles.

Doing the same as I did with my 2010 Camaro, 2011 Volt, and 2014 Camaro... follow whatever the owner's manual says. No extra oil changes, etc. If I remember correctly, I just had to avoid using cruise control and vary the speeds and RPMs for X amount of miles. That was about it. Changed the oil on the 2014 when the light came on months later as indicated in the manual and I believe that car sat at the dealership for a few months in the winter prior to me picking it up.

I don't trust an early build enough to do that honestly. I'll probably tune it around 10-15k miles and just worry about cosmetic and suspension stuff until then.

It's not like it's a new engine, I'm not too worried about it. Besides my SS is 38 months old and I only have 11K miles. If I wait to 10k that will be 2.5 years from now. Lol

Doesn't GM break in all motors themselves? I have seen them do this on How It's Made Dream cars for both the 5th gen and vettes. The manual is mainly talking about crate engines, I thought.
