13k Mi on 2SS and Oil Indicator says time for 3rd change?
2016 2SS, I had the dealer change the oil at 1500, then I changed it at about 7500, now with 13k, oil indicator is at 4%.
I'm using full synthetic, isn't it too early? Guess you can't really be too early, but really? |

Don't go by the dash oil %. check it yourself often to see if the oil level is low

5,500 miles sound about right depending on how it's driven. The Oil Life Monitor (OLM) has been in development for years on many different vehicles. It will go based on how the engine is driven and not just mileage alone. There's a lot smart technology that goes into the OLM system and there's a lot of brilliant minds behind the technology that created it. I'd trust what the system says.

Anyway, how long has it been between changes time wise? The Oil Life Monitor includes time between changes. It will always hit 0% 12 months to the date of last reset. So you can change the oil and drive 0 miles and 12 months later the OLM will hit 0%. |

Sounds about right. Compared to older OLMs these also factor in time. It will tell you to change the oil eventually even if you don’t drive the car.

Thanks for the responses, its been about 6 mos since last change, and only about 6500 on a full synthetic. Will take advantage of the Mobil 1 $10 off at Costco. . .

Same sort of thing happened to me. Put brand new oil in the car before storage...5 months later, I woke it up for the summer to find the on board OLM read 65%!!!

I changed mine at 500 miles then again at 1100 for track oil. I noticed the oil monitor read 75 percent life at 1100 miles. Thought that was odd. Just changed again at 1900 miles since I had 2 track days completed but the oil monitor was at 87 percent.
Who knows the logic behind the monitor. |

Many, many metrics....the Camaro has everything from an oil temp sensor to a barometer...I'm sure it taps into all of those.
Many early OLMs were no better than a timer/trip meter...some manufacturers still rely on such simple calculations to display oil life. The GM system, especially the new one is pretty thorough. But it will only work best for the kind of oil the engine was designed for... |
