I know some will laugh and say this is blasphemy, but.. the only reason it hasn't been done and actually moved forward is because they scratched the idea at the time... everything must evolve , seems like the mid engine corvette would be a great place to start with a NA V10...
I agree but if you follow the tea leaves of the performance trail at GM seems to be going towards turbo charged DOHC engines. Cadillac has it, rumor shows the C8 getting two variants of a DOHC turbo engine

Hot Rod released an article yesterday that they had been sitting on until the release of the C8. In the article the writer talks about driving the C8 while being developed. They drove three cars; one equipped with a 6.6L NA, one with a 7.4L NA, and the the last with a 5.7L TT DOHC. GM didn’t select either of these three for the C8 but I found it interesting that they were testing the two large displacement NA power plants. Unless they buck tradition and go away from a NA Z28 my guess is one of these two is the logical next step for the Z28.

The way I am understanding the article is that the cars that were driven, 13 years ago!, were much earlier mid-engine Corvette prototypes, the ones in the pictures, not early version C8 prototypes. So the 6.6L would've likely been a Pontiac 400 or a BBC 396/402. The 7.4L would've been a 70's BBC 454 and then the 5.7L TT would've been the LT-5 from the 90's ZR1. Not current LT engines at different displacements. Also, the article was released on the 12th, 6 days before the C8 debut.

This article is of the prototypes made decades ago which some were on display at the reveal but these are not the C8 prototypes. Below is believed to be the first running C8 prototype by GM and the others look more like C7 parts stretched to fit a mid engine chassis.

That is the same article..... Here's the opening to the last paragraph

"A little more than 13 years after driving and riding in these early prototypes (the XP-882 Aerovette, the XP-895 Reynolds Corvette, and the CERV III), I had the pleasure of riding shotgun in two very late C8 prototypes."

The Z/28 isn’t coming back. The Camaro is just going to coast until they decide to shut it down for good.

This would absolve GM of their pitiful sendoff this year. Its a moonshot though.

I can't see firing up the line to make a few hundred cars. That's less than a weeks worth of production. Sounds like it would be a money losing venture.
