It says Dexos2 on the bottle.

I am curious though if that oil is just this oil that's been out in the UK for a while: https://www.mobil1.co.uk/synthetic-e...esp-0w-40.aspx. Bottle looks the same and the specs are a little bit different compared to the new 0W-40. If I had to guess that may be the European 0W-40 oil and GM is maybe just telling dealers to use it for now until supply for the new 0W-40 is better.

Mine came from a local dealer as GMPD was on backorder. It’s euro spec 0W-40, hence the 1L bottles. It’s what is spec’d by GM so I’m good with it.

It’s ungodly expensive through the dealer, though.

Hmmm, I'll have to go down to the local Wally-World---thought I saw 0w-40 Dexos down there on their shelf.........5qt containers.........
(can't recall if it was ESP)

Looks like they're switching over to it for better wear protection and you'll be able to street and track with it without switching oils. I attached a PDF with all the info.

Wonder if the 2019 Camaro's will come with this oil or if GM will make this the recommended oil for them. I might switch over to it once it becomes more widely available later this year.
Who actually issued this pdf brochure? Any idea?

I am asking as our manuals specifically call for dexos 2 standard in either 0w40 or 5w40 yet this Mobil 1 EST 0w40 is dexos but NOT dexos 2. So it does not match the requirement stated in Camaro's 2018 HP Supplement.

I found it on the corvette forums here: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...40-update.html

Looks like it came from Mobil 1.

It kinda looked like it to me as well. So as much as this certainly looks like a product specifically developed for a Vette to avoid having to switch oils between dd and track duty, mentioning other cars may be just a case of self marketing here. I for one will wait for official GM word that confirms this specific non Dexos 2 oil qualifies for a wet sump Camaro LT1.

Agreed. Need official Chevy Camaro endorsement.

Even though they are both LT1/LT4 animals, wet sump/dry sumps are different breeds.

It was mentioned in Ask Al, but I haven't seen any movement there.

I'm also very interested to see if oil volatility issues from 0W- oils in GDI has been addressed in the ESP formulation.

The 1 liter euro spec oil is being used to provide availability to Corvette owners prior to the full release scheduled for 3rd quarter 2018. It is Dexos 2 as clearly indicated on the bottle but not exatly the same, based on the specs, as the new formula which is also Dexos 2. The 0w40 fill caps are being produced in both dry and wet sump versions. So presumably, as indicated in the press release, the new formula is for all LT1 and LT4 engines.

As for why the ZL1 1LE still specifies 15w50 for track use, it will likely see higher temperatures. It can start accelerating earlier and brake later, meanwhile the engine must work harder to overcome the extra aero.
