Need new tires for winter
So my ultra high performance summer tires will not be okay for me to drive this winter. My question is will a good all season tire be okay to get me through winter and still be a good summer tire? Im thinking of switching over to all season tires year round, possibly the continental DWS.

winter tire is too broad...what conditions are you expecting to drive in? Snow? Mostly just cold and wet?

Just typical Illinois weather. I might get stuck in 1-4" of snow maybe 3 times over winter. So for the most part its cold, wet, and maybe a little icy. I'm just asking to see if there's a good all season tire out there that will be good in summer and decent in cold winter weather. An all around compromise to get rid of the summer only tires.

I guess my question is, I will be switching to all season tires for my weather in IL. Should I go with Extreme Contact DWS06, Pilot Sport A/S, or Yokohama Advan Sport? Those are what Im looking at. Trying to retain some spirited summer driving but greatly improve cold winter handling. Thanks

I can tell you that I put all seasons on my 2011 RS (V6). I drove with them for one season before switching to winter tires. On the SS, there's no way I'd drive all-seasons in a Chicago winter. If you're downstate (enough where it rarely snows), maybe you could get away with it. However, all-seasons suck on these cars for winter driving.
In the summer, you'd be giving up a lot of grip (over a dedicated summer tire). That said though, an all-season would be way better than summer tires if you can't store a second set of wheels/tires. Good luck. Be careful on the lousy winter roads.

I did 2 winters with BFG Comp2 A/S. Workers great.
I just switched to Kumho W72s. Winter tire as the A/S wore out they did not inspire the same confidence. They are still great, many miles to go with them, but the Kumhos are really cheap. And as found out the last day or 2 they work excellent

Road and Track has a pretty good article on this...
https://www.roadandtrack.com/car-cul...er-tire-guide/ The only thing they left out is this: If you have dedicated winter wheels & tires, you reduce the mileage that you're putting on your summer tires...so they last longer. |

Hi, sorry to hijack, but I'm sure the forum does not need another winter tire thread... Also please don't grill me if it's been asked before, I used the search, but there is simply too many search results.
My '17 SS 2SS came with the staggered set up, 245/40R20 and 275/35R20. I'm planning to get tires and wheels for winter. I'm a complete noob and don't know if I need staggered tires or if I could go with the same on all 4. Tirerack tool suggested 235/50R18 (x-ice XI3) on all four and I'm going with the Platinum Flux 18x8. Will this work on all four? I plan to get the sensors installed by them and install the tires at home. Do you guys use any tools that you would recommend for this (e.g. particular car jack or wrench that made your lives easier)? Thanks |

You can go same tire all around.
May need to spec correct wheel offset to get look fitment.

Thanks, but honestly I have no clue what this means. Do you mean adding a spacer so that the wheel looks better ("look fitment") or to avoid potential problems?
This is a little beyond what I researched so I don't know anything about spacers |

I've decided go with 18-19"aftermarket wheels and snow tires. The dilemma now is finding the right wheel at discount tire to clear my 6 piston brembos. Anyone know what offset I need or what works from them?

235 width X-Ice are going to suck unless you're cutting thru 6" of fresh snow, lol... |

MRR has some Camaro/Vette specific models in those sizes. Calling and asking is your best bet. Discount can order them for you. Any brand that size should fit as long as the design doesn't curve in and hit the brake rotor, but with some you may have to use hub-centric rings/spacers, MRR will have stock sized bore, 69mm I think... This setup will preserve stock 1LE/ZL1 wheel spacing (justified to the outer edges) and allow you to run a square winter setup. |
