Ported MSD results.
Hit the dyno on the way to work. Got what I expected. It did the typical losses down low and extended the power band up top. But with the porting the tq loss was greatly reduced and the MSD actually went up on power around 5K and carried it much further. You guys can look back at my previous stock MSD porting to see what I am talking about. The fuel and timing were dialed in so no adjustments were made or needed. I made two runs and they were within .5 hp/tq of each other. I could have possibly taken an hour or two to try a bunch of stuff to crack 500rw but there just wasn't the time today.
Driving around the car does feel much softer but for my combo with the 4C converter in it I think some good gains could be realized at the track. it is hard to predict how the extra power up top would pan out in a run. Luckily for my I would flash right through the tq dip and probably not even notice it. I am going to go back and compare logs next to see what the data is telling me as well. It was a bit cooler in the dyno today so that could attribute to some of the gain but over all I am really impressed with how the porting turned out and what it was worth over the stock MSD. I also used my same maxed out TB for both tests so this is straight ported stock IM to ported MSD.

You just need to break down and buy your own dyno. Probably cheaper in the long run.

I actually asked my guy this morning if he wanted to sell the dyno in a couple months. If I can stay off it for a while maybe I could afford one.

My MSD will be on its way to you next week. You can keep your low-end/mid-range. I'll take the top end
The direct port will take care of the mid range. LOL You better dust off that blower. Good work as usual! |

We have had this discussion. Nitrous FTW over the LT4 blower all day. Even after I port the LT4 you would still probably win. I would have to 1.36 60ft your butt and watch you play catch up. That would be an interesting race. Now the ported MSD and a D1 or Paxton could swing things.

Thanks Brett. I will stick with my Bo White Ported MSD, it pulls like a freight train above 5K just how I want it for the track.

I am never tied to anything. What ever is faster is faster. I port both for the same price so it makes no difference to me. But $1,400 for a ported manifold that is marginally faster than a ported $350 stocker is a tough pill to swallow. I could spend that extra K on something else to get that .1 and 1mph back and then some. For $1,200 you could get a set of my heads and be up another 30rw up top.

Yes sir, Bo is a good buddy of mine. Glad I paid nowhere near $1,400 for my Ported MSD tho. Hahaha. If you aren't cammed by CamaroFest in July, it would be cool if we could line up!

I am getting a cam but there is a 99.9% chance it won't be in the car by then. I would love to line them up. I have a feeling there will be a line to take us both out at the Fest. LOL. There are some serious contenders out there right now. As soon as they get their tunes dialed in I am sure I will be on a free fall down the bolt on list.

Looking at my dyno logs from my last runs to today the MSD gains are legit. The weather helped a little today along with a 4% bump in E content. My DynCyl peak on my stock ported IM run was .90 and fell to .83 by 6,400. The ported MSD this morning did .92 at peak and fell to .88 at 6,400. So a .7 drop for the stock ported IM vs. only a .4 reduction for the ported MSD. The MSD was running a little bit richer which put it in the perfect AFR for power. My ported IM was a little on the lean side for max power at 13.2ish. Having identical AFR's would have helped a little but probably would have only been worth .1-.2 but the drop would have been the same. The stock IM or the weather that day was limiting my over all KPA starting point. Looking at both there is about a 3-4KPA drop from the beginning of the run to the end. My ported stock IM started at 98KPA and dropped to 94KPA. The MSD started at 100KPA and dropped to 97KPA. The ECT and IAT's matched on both runs though which is kind of strange since it was 8*-10* cooler according to the weather station on the dyno. Those ported heads are flowing some air for sure to put that draw on the IM's and CAI for the weather. The max MAF fqhz I saw with the stock ported IM was 8,620 vs. 8,849 for the MSD. That MSD flows up top ported.
