Tire Wear Marks
I assume at this point these are due to be changed as im at the wear marks.
Im not driving in the rain unless I get caught out in it and I mostly use the car for the track anymore. Im doing one more track day on the 25th and then replacing them. Just want a 2nd opinion that these are good to go. Thanks, |

With performance tires my experience is you can run them right down until there is no tread.
I know you asked this in a couple other post, and every tire is a little different. Every 200 TW tire I have had you could run the tire down to no tread. To me what judges them is heat cycles and more important cold weather. If they are subject to cold weather the rubber is isnt as grippy any more and to me they divert back to say a 300TW "normal: tire. Some worse some better. I got a set of Hankook RS3 now about 3 years old that maybe have 1000 miles on them. The car sits outside and today its 25F. These tires lost there "grip" to me 2 seasons ago. Nothing dangerous to them just dont have the grip level of a new tire.never mind where the tread depth is.

Do you have a state inspection anytime soon? Those will probably not pass, that is what happened to me. I would have left mine a few thousand more miles, but I couldn't get it to pass.

Appreciate the response.
No state Insp. Im trying to understand a bit more about tire wear and performance based on loss of tread and heat cycles. To me my rears look like they should be replaced but the consensus is (and im going to do this) is to run them down to the cords for track use. Hope its not annoying, im just trying to make sure im good. Thanks again. Pat |

Those have more than 4 or 5 sessions left in them. Probably 2-3 days. Run them till you see cords, but inspect closely when they start getting more worn. Your fronts should be wearing out before your rears on track.

Thanks,
The fronts are about the same alittle better actually. Ill do 3 or 4 20 min sessions. Im pretty surprised they lasted as long as they have actually. |

your asking good sound questions dont sweat it. Hell you may end up teaching someone else someday all about performance tires.
