I think this is very possible! You're not talking about extensive ground up CAD. The wiring harness, tune, and trans would need to be upgraded or tested, but this is easily a thing. Minimal design financial allocation needed, blow the doors off the competition as current performance, the other companies can barely keep up with 100 less horses. Imagine if they were 755 at the fly with a lighter car than the competition and better trans than the Red Eye and a HELL of a lot faster than the poster boy mustang for a respectable price with increased options...I can see this.

I'm thinking of a LT5 ZL1 and a late Z/28 intro with the NA high reeving V8 from the C8 program.

We probably need to see what happens after the C8 reveal on 7/18. The LT5 is built at the Performance Build Center in the Corvette factory, and if they convert to building different power trains for the C8, it might not be continued. If it does remain in production it would likely be moved to another engine plant, which would increase costs.

Has anybody thought about how much added cost that it might be to put that expensive LT5 in the Camaro? The LT5 costs more than the LT4 and would probably increase the price by $10,000. Seems to me it would be another overpriced 5th gen Z28 that failed to sell like anticipated! Don’t think GM will make that mistake again. Just my thoughts!

I would have spent the extra 10k as long as they also eased up on the TQ management as well. Or they could rethink the LT4 and add the 2650 with proper fueling and be half the price.

The people that owned that Z/28 (I am one) will never say it was overpriced. That car was worth every cent.

So I gotta say, I really do think the Camaro will get the LT5 or some variant of it. Maybe not the full 755 HP. Maybe a 710-730 HP version. And maybe not a "ZL1". Maybe some other version of the Camaro. But I now think that leaving a 650 HP engine untouched in the 6th Gen ZL1 or having that as the highest HP offering for a Camaro for what will be about 8-10 years would be ridiculous. I think that we just might see a higher output something in the next 2 years. Even if they do just bump the ZL1 up a bit...and the Z06 with it. Thoughts??
Its very possible and its something Camaro has to do. The LT5 is already validated, GM just needs to do it in the Camaro chassis or forget about about competeing with Mustang. At 5k more than a current ZL1, it would be less money than a base GT500

Well Urban, the Z28s surely stayed on the dealer lots in 2015 and people weren’t buying them and the dealers were cutting the MSRP to get rid of them. That’s what I referring to! They were worth the money if you were using it for it’s intended purpose, tracking the car!

Other than having the anemic n/a engine in the '15 heavyweight the car had potential for it's class.
6th gen greatly improved on the Z28 with the 1LE. Not really any need to go backwards. That's like replacing the CTS/V with the new version of lesser power.
Easy to understand how those who own the top of the line Camaro don't want someone to have the next "improved" version which apparently makes their anatomy shrink. Goal is to sell cars here. An LT5 in the Camaro will greatly enhance sales, even at a greater premium. It isn't that big a deal to stick an upgrade in an existing car.
